From a retired US Marine perspective who has years of experience with field tools, this is not a common tactical EDC but practical in home or work as quality box cutter which I carry around the house but when out in the field you need a leatherman multi tool. In the middle east I used leatherman everyday.

TSA changed the rules for carrying box cutters. They're no longer allowed in the cabin even with the blade removed. This is obviously stupid, and enforcement is inconsistent at best, but something to be aware of. I recently flew with the Prybrid (with the blade removed) twice, then had it confiscated at LAX on the third occasion. I liked it enough that I bought a replacement. I bought this knife direct from Gerber as soon as it was released with a pocket clip. It had a smooth operation, but the sliding mechanism was a bit weak. Anything that gave more resistance than cardboard would often cause the blade to retract. That particular unit was confiscated at the airport. The replacement unit I bought has a pretty rough action right out of the package. It might break in over time, but that would also mean that the inner metal slider would have effectively worn the inside of the G10 handle slab smoother. G10 is basically laminated fiberglass, so that would create a pretty bad respiratory hazard in your hand. Maybe not the best design choice. The Prybrid works well for EDC, but for work I use a heavier duty full size Milwaukee Fastback. A heavier duty, yet lighter weight EDC alternative would be the Milwaukee Compact Slide Utility Knife. It's a little bulkier and lacks the extra features, but it's cheaper and works great. I'm still deciding which one I prefer.

As you may have seen in some of the negative reviews, there are at least two common issues. Issue number one is the prying blades are too thick to wedge into many places (or to effectively use as a flat head driver.) And issue number two being the very difficult task of changing the blade. I can confirm both issues are true, at least for me. I was able to take care of the first problem by grinding down the two pry edges to about just under a millimeter and then adding a mirror polish. It worked and I had an effective pry bar and flat head driver. However I was never able to easily (even with various tools) change the blade. I could do it, but it was painful and made me incredibly nervous that I might end up slicing my hand. Additionally, the "cord cutter" available while the blade is stowed is useless. I repeatedly tried using it to trim paracord and finally gave up. This was a new blade, so I'm not sure what the deal was. I ended up purchasing the Gerber Prybrid X and it has been much more functional, right out of the package.

I had bought one without a clip about a year ago. It was very stiff and I red-necked a clip from broken tape measure and a screw to it and I still didn’t like it. I love the size and how it fits my hand and the screwdriver/pry part works great for quick electrical cabinet access. So that one sat in a pile till I ordered it with a clip and it’s beyond smoother and tools are just as durable and nice thickness for pocket carry. Blade change is still finicky but no big deal to be intentional.
