This set is absolutely gorgeous. Simple and clean lines give it an elegant look! (Kinda like a little black dress-simple but elegant.) Every piece was intact, no chips, breaks or hairline cracks. It was packed well. I saw some reviews that indicated packing was poor, I didn't think so. Could every piece be double wrapped in bubble wrap, maybe. But they were packed tight with thick wavy cardboard between every piece. If a warehouse worker or delivery person throws a heavy box, no matter the packing something will break (kinda like the brain-it's protected but when slammed can incur injury). I'll see how they hold over time since there is some reviews that indicate discoloration. It does say they are dishwasher safe, however I do not use a dishwasher. I hand wash and hand dry all glass and china. Overall I am super pleased with this 40 pc set! I did get it when it was on sale, making overall experience even better! If you are on the fence like I was for several months I recommend you pulling the trigger and I think you would be pleased.

My mom purchased this set first and then I purchased my own set. I wasn't sure if I would like the plain white color, but I do. Since it's a set for 8, it's a larger than I needed but I still wanted them. I just have extras. I didn't want anything heavy. I had previously purchaed a stoneware set and they were way too heavy. I ended up giving them away. These are not heavy and are easy to clean. I haven't used one in the microwave; although it says they microwave and dishwasher safe. The dinner plates are very large, which is great. You can use the salad plates in leu of dinner plates if you're not used to larger plates. I like the round way the bowls are made and there are regular bowls for cereal and smaller bowls for other things like deserts. When I first got them, I didn't want to use them for everyday but that changed. I got rid of everything else I had in my cabinet to make room for all of the pieces that came in the box, which was very nicely packed. I almost hated to get rid of the box. The coffee cups are a nice size. In the picture, they look small but they're actually not. They're not big mega cups but they're a nice size. And since they're slim and tall, they fit well in my cabinet. I'm careful when I was my dishes and have not chipped any of them. I am very happy with this purchase.

This is my second set of these dishes. They look nice on the table and do well in the dishwasher. They are not perfectly uniform in shape, some plates are slightly thicker than others, or have slight blemishes on the edges. I'm not sure, think these are seconds, at the very least. For the price and my needs, the set is perfect. As they are porcelain, they chip easily, I'm careful when placing in cupboard or dishwasher. I like the small fruit/rice bowls. Didn't think I would use them, turns out, I use them all the time.

Mikasa dishes consistently deliver beauty and quality along with a practical durability. This is my third Mikasa set to own (others are holiday dishes) and my first everyday set. The lines and style of this set is simple, clean, and classic which means they can be paired with a lot of other styles (colored and patterned dishes, bright cloth napkins, metallic chargers, etc.) and they blend in. These dishes hold up well to the daily use and wear. The shaping of the dishes is consistent and regular - the glazing is without blemish or flaw. They look fancy and have nice edges, but they aren't delicate either. You don't have to baby or pamper these dishes.
