WEN 12-Inch Benchtop Drill Press, 6.2-Amp Variable Speed Motor with Cast Iron Construction, Laser and LED Work Light (DP1263V)

This press arrived safe. all the parts for there. It took me about an hour to put together. I took my time. My run out was 001 to 002 back-and-forth. Everything works perfect the laser, the light everything. Build quality is great on this WEN 4212.T i've got 2Led lights that are yellow mounted on the front. They angle down toward the drill bit

I'm very pleased with my purchase. Assembly was simple. It's a sturdy machine with a feel of precision. I'm not a machinist and didn't get into measuring runout. It hit the mark and drills precisely enough for my woodworking needs. The laser crosshairs will be a useful feature. My one issue was quickly addressed by Wen. The first time I used the machine it malfunctioned because the double nut on the shaft of the feed handle hadn't been tightened at the factory. The loose nuts allowed the tension spring to unspool with a "bang". I hadn't noticed this loose fit because the nuts are under a rubber cover. I was able to re-tension the spool by following the instruction manual. I thought this may have damaged the spool cover and I was sent a new one but I could see no difference between the parts so haven't swapped it out. The table cranks smoothly and locks in place well. I've never had a table extension before so don't know how useful that might be. I stuck the chuck changing tools to the side of the drillpress head with neodymium magnets. I don't expect to change chucks often, if ever, but figured I'd likely misplace those tools if they were just tossed into a tool drawer. I bolted the machine to a Cammoo mobile welding table found on Amazon and am very pleased with the assembly.

Strong and well built. Love the speed control. If you want to fit out to make it even more capable, add a stand, an XY table and a precision vise and it makes a solid dill mill option. Less than half the cost of a turn key drill mill. I bought Vevor precision 5" vise - $74, Vevor milling Table $112, Powertec stand $66. So all in $566 for my drill mill replacement. A lot of weight on the table. If doing again I would go with a lighter vise, but still very happy with the setup.

So far I’m happy with this drill press it was super easy to assemble, directions were clear and easy to follow, Tuning the machine was easy , adjusting the spindle return tension was the only thing that was difficult, manual shows one thing and the machine is different , actually the AI helped quite a bit and it’s done so if anyone else runs in to this use the AI.. On a final note I’m so glad I didn’t feel the need to spend extra with a name brand because after looking at Jet it is identical to wen the only difference is color , they try to hide it with jet having their home office in Tenn but it manufactured in Taiwan or China and Wen is half price!!!

I upgraded to this WEN from an ancient Ryobi press. I can’t tell you how nice it is to be able to change the speed via an external control rather than opening the hood and changing belts like I’ve been doing for the past 30 years. Frankly, I don’t know why I waited so long. Overall, this drill is very beefy. I had to buy a new stand for it as it weighs twice as much as my old Ryobi, but that’s OK. I was looking for a larger drill press with a longer mast, and this serves the purpose perfectly. I did change out the keyed chuck for a keyless. And I added a larger table. This drill press is large enough and chunky enough to manage these items effortlessly. For the cost, I think this is one of the best deals out there. I looked at all the other comparable brands before making my choice, and I went for the least expensive, which I was concerned about. But I do not regret my choice. This is a solid well performing drill press. And I’d recommend it to anybody.
