Flawed but still recommended

Memories of my AMSTRAD Tape to Tape from 1983 this is a great stereo in it's own right.Easy to use, and a lot of kit for your money. (There is no remote control offered with it)The Bluetooth worked straight away but I need a 10 metre cable into the very useful AUX jack to play my YouTube from down the corridor and round the corner. This is great for playback on all outputs DAB/AUX/CD/USB/Cassette - but they are out of balance - and the cassette canot tape them at all well. The CD buffers it's data and the tape has digital noise reduction showing that the software is capable of modification. That being said, a firmware update could bring things back in order. Any device with a SD card slot should be able to ingest and load a patch to make all the inputs match to the level required to balance the recordings.I really do love this machine and hope it can be made better by a firmware update.

By far the best modern retro style boom box.

First off the designers have absolutely nailed the looks, it's one very good looking machine. It's much better built than the more expensive GPO Brooklyn, the buttons feel decent and the knobs feel excellent with weight behind them. Bass and treble do what they're supposed to and actually have a marked effect on the sound. It also sounds way, way better than the GPO, in fact it sounds better than any other similar boom box I've tried. CD playback, FM and DAB radio all sound good as does MP3 from USB. Bluetooth also works well with no dropout that I could hear. But I hear you cry, what about cassette?. On playback, very good indeed for a modern boom box. Full stereo, speed at least on mine is stable too. Again it's probably the best sounding modern cassette playback boom box, better than my Sony CD-S70 and miles better than the aforementioned GPI Brooklyn. It's also heavy and well made too. So what's bad?. Recording onto tape is bad quality. It uses the same permanent magnet erase head that all except the Teac/Tascam hifi decks use. If recording tapes is your thing buy a proper cassette deck, but for playing back music on cassette, CD etc. then this is an excellent bu3t in my opinion.

Not for Classical Music lovers

This impressive item is very loud and it is good to have a tone control. However the sound is too harsh for Classical Music. Furthermore the cassette tape player plays too fast by 5 to 10% which affects the pitch. This may not be obvious with pop. So I am having to return the player.

such a shame quality control is lacking on what could have been great

The unboxing and packaging were top-notch. I can’t fault this. However, mine came with a ding in one of the speakers. I requested a return and replacement, but I was afraid I’d get one worse.First, I like the unit. I think it’s well-assembled.Positives:- Uses real D batteries, not some awful rechargeable built-in one!- Real AC mains!- VU meters are cool blue-lit.- The dials are very smooth and don’t feel cheap.- Good damping, soft eject on the cassette and CD player.- The display is very clear.- DAB worked fantastic.Cons:- The VU meters were erratic. One side peaked considerably lower than the other, regardless of the source.- The dial “bass” would suddenly go deep when turning from 3 to 0. It felt trapped (software is digital).- The CD player made a constant tapping sound on the CDs I tried.- The SD card seemed faulty. Nothing would insert. Now, I really wanted this unit. Why or why do manufacturers make these issues? I would pay a decent amount for a retro boombox, but they fail every single time.On a positive note, this is by far the best I’ve come across. But the ding in the speaker has left a sour taste in my mouth. It’s such a shame because I really do like it. But the hassle of a return if another is faulty and sent out with dints is a real pain. The sound was quite good, loud enough, and the bass was warm and quite rich, if a little dry. Also, something strange would happen when I played a CD. The CD would stop spinning at random times, but the music would still play.Maybe it’s playing from memory? Like a buffer, strange, not sure if it’s a fault, but it seems intentional if so, it’s kinda cool…Also note thatThe roxel CamdenAlso goes under various modelsBased on the sharp gf 575There's the aiwa AI7012Leotec LT-CD1908BUCTMedion Life MD 44238Soundmaster SCD1980MUSE M-380 GBOrion SCR-B9There's probably more! Variants and colour choices however are for most other markets and may not include DAB!I really miss the replies and responds that amazon removed especially when buyers could discuss their experiences with products.

Looks and sounds excellent

Excellent quality. Heavier than anticipated.DAB radio and Bluetooth sound are particularly good.Superb volume range and bass.CD and cassette pretty good too.Disappointed that instructions are not available for download online and reliant solely on the printed details supplied. Have not tried to record on cassette which others have mentioned as a disappointment - personally no need however.Excellent overall and recommend.I did later manage to obtain the instructions from the manufacturers online having sent a request by email.
