The Future of Work: Robots, AI, and Automation

Had to read this book for a business meeting. This book offers nothing new. Work is changing daily. To be kept up to date on the future of work talk to people who are working. Read articles in respectable outlets like the NY Times and others. People are trying to pass themselves off as experts by writing books on the subject. The fact is books about the future, especially about work, are out of date the day they’re published.

This book provides a lot of useful information to me, living the last quarter of my life. The information includes a number of proposals helpful to deal with the transformed society, economy, and politics by robots, AI and Internet of Thing.However, I have not many choices to take even some of the proposals. Key challenges are how to learn new skills and develop new job capabilities. I feel sad as I have an only choice to exercise my voting power politically to protect what I have now. Am I the only person left behind in this transition period?

I am well versed in the science and technology of AI, I was seeking information re the social side of the issue and how it may be implemented. The book discussed many of my questions and poised many more. I believe that the 2020 election year will reveal the good, bad and ugly side of AI, and electoral elections will never be the same again.

Gives insight and foresight of what lies ahead of us and how we should prepare for it. Academics should read this

Excellent book. West does a first great job of explaining the new aspects of AI and The Internet of Things. His quantitative analysis as both convincing and interesting. Good book

There is not much in the book that is insightful. West covers the familiar territory if automation and the polarisation of american politics.

The book arrived as advertised.

This book offers very little that is new. While often tending to be alarmist, offers very little food for thought about the advances that are becoming possible through technological development. Fails to connect past important disruptions and the progress they brought with predicted future disruptions. Mostly about how future trends will affect the U.S.A. while ignoring the rest of the world. Very limited and narrow perspective.

An excellent, well researched and well-written book on the future of work and the issues that will face us as a society as we navigate this next technical revolution.If you are interested or concerned about how technology, robotics and AI are going to affect our jobs, life and society this is a great book to start with. Packed full of relevant stats and research, I raced through my copy in 2 days and it was full of tape flags by the end.Highly recommended
