Brilliant product!
How can I be moved to review a log burner 'polish'? Don't know but I am ........a ridiculous amount of pleasure to be gained by damp wiping the log burner and then applying this liquid (I used a cheap paintbrush). The finished effect is absolutely stunning - am dead chuffed; looks brand new. It's a very runny liquid and a bit messy when it dribbles out the bottle but that's my only negative. A little goes a very long way and I am one happy log burner owner - highly recommended as a quick and easy total makeover for grey, stained washed out stoves.

Brilliant, economical way to restore old wood burner
This is absolutely brilliant! It may seem like a small bottle but I have completely treated a large cast iron wood burning cooker stove and its steel flue and have masses left over. No smell (being water-based), easy to apply (I used a small synthetic bristle brush and it has not left any brush strokes) and a lovely matt black finish. My rusting, scratched old stove looks like new again. We did make sure the first couple of burns were relatively cool so that it could cure properly and it gave off a very slight smoke/smell but nothing like some of the solvent-based stove paints and polishes. Highly recommended!

Easy to use
I, like many previous reviewers, was surprised by how simple it was to apply this product and howgood it looks when done. I have had my woodburner for about 30 years and as you can imagine it was in a bit of a state, I simply cleaned it with a brush and applied this product with a paintbrush and it looks like new again. I did try using a cloth but would't reccomend it as more seemed to go into the cloth than on the woodburner. I have had a fire since applying the product but the black does still come off onto a white cloth if it is rubbed, this may stop after a few more fires but if not it is only a minor downside. As other reviewers have noted the bottle seems small but I only used about half so I don't think thqt quantity is a problem. Overall I can reccomend Stovax Colloidal Matt Black Stove Fireplace Coating.

Fantastic Result
After reading previous positive reviews I decided to place an order. The bottle is quite small, but very little goes a long way. The liquid is difficult to describe. It is not dissimilar to ink, very runny and at first I was a little sceptical whether it would achieve the desired result. My black fire surround looked terrible. The surface was very patchy and rusty. I used the liquid with both a cloth and a soft brush. It did get a bit messy using the cloth, but I managed to clean my hands with water and soap.To my horror I also spilled a few drops on white floor boards, but thankfully they came off easily with warm water and detergent. My preferred method of application by far was using a brush. I poured some of the liquid in a container and dipped the brush in it. I found the liquid easy to apply and achieved an even finish in a relatively short space of time. The transformation of the fire surround is fantastic. All the uneven areas, including the rusty patches, have disappeared and the matt finish is beautiful. I cannot recommend this product highly enough.

Effective but does leave residue and finish doesn't last
This is a very thin watery liquid - I put it in a dish then applied with a paint brush. Very easy to apply but be careful not to flick drops as is very thin. Pros: easy to use, effective and gives a lovely matt black finish. The stove lookes brand new on first application. I reckon I've prob used well under half a bottle so a little goes a long way. Couldn't discern any smell when I lit the stove. Cons: this does leave residue which will come off on hands/clothes etc which is far from ideal to be honest. I wouldn't have used this if I had known. Also worth commenting that the coating is fragile. Even brushing Ash off the ledge has resulted in minor scratches to the surface which is irritating. Next time I think I'll look for an alternative but if the residue issue doesn't bother you then probably worth getting.

Brilliant stuff!
My Morso Squirrel stove was looking very sorry for itself, but this brought it back to how I imagine it looked when new. I used an old rag and a toothbrush to apply and get into all the nooks and crannies. This was my first attempt at sprucing up my stove, so I can't compare it to any other products, but was very happy with the results. A word of warning - like others have said, wear some old/disposable gloves when applying (and not just on the hand applying it, like I did - the bottle dribbles a lot, so both hands will get mucky!) Initially I was worried I hadn't bought enough when I saw the size of the two bottles I'd ordered, but I finished the stove with a little of the first bottle still left. So now have enough for another stove makeover at some point! Btw, it says on the bottle that it dries to a matt finish when the stove reaches 200C, but I found it went to matt within seconds on a cold stove. So no waiting to see the results! I highly recommend this product.

Good for stoves/multi-fuel fires blackening
When having my multi fuel fire serviced the company put this liquid onto my fire. Brought the black colour up a treat, so I purchased ,by name, straight away. On first lighting fire there is a slight odour, as advised, however this disappears. I'm hoping that, after the initial blackening, I will not need to redo ofter- time will tell but I've the product now. Easy to use/prefer to a spray/brings fire looking like new again. Well pleased

Great product
I'm a complete novice when it comes to any kind of DIY. We were given an old cast iron wood burning stove that had been sat in someone's garden for many months. Needless to say it was very rusty. I brushed the stove with a wire brush, but despite my best efforts I couldn't get down to the iron past the rust. I decided to just make the surface even and give it a new coat of paint. This product appeared very thin, almost like water. I thought it would very work. I put two generous coats on with just one bottle using a small masonry brush. I was shocked the next day to find the stove looked brand new! I looks truly beautiful. Three months have passed and the stove still looks new without a hint if rust! What a great product I can not recommend it enough!
