We're having lots of power cuts at the min-will this work on a fish tank? I don't want to power everything, just the main filters and heater

Here is what a kind person at APC advised me - for a SMT1000 : make sure that the devices connected won't exceed the max configurable power 600 Watts / 1000 VA. Not sure that the device will last for long- I use it for a computer/printer/router and it lasts a few hours but as you can see the power use is v low compared say to a heater.

I live in the Pyrenees and we regularly have electric storms. Will this cope with protecting the electronics on our heating system ?

From my knowledge this will not protect your electronics from storms other than if you have a power outage it will kick in and you will have some electrical power for a time depending on the wattage drain of what it is connected to. However if the heating electronics need protecting from voltage fluctuations from the storm then a surge protector is required. Hope that gives some direction but an electrician should be able to give better guidance on this.

Is the input power a C19 or standard C13 (kettle lead) socket?

Hi,I'm not sure of the type but the link below shows an image of the rear connections for the unit I purchased. It did come with the power cable in the package.http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81ot6-RS%2BjL._SL1500_.jpgAt the time I also purchased "Belkin Pro Series IEC Power Extension Cables" which I believe have the same type of plugs/sockets but male or female depending on whether input or output to the unit. Incoming power cable is bottom right with multi outgoings to the right/centre.Hope that helps.

Is smt750 ups compatible with an apfc-enabled power supply that is rated at 600w, when real measured power usage is always below 300w?

Although computer power supplies draw only a fraction of their full capacity during its steady state(normal operation), PFC power supplies have the potential to draw their full capability during initial inrush.
