This book has more than I expected! Not only does it contain a vast list of video game handheld hardware but also in depths details on the media that was used, including call outs to some of the important games related. The Fantastic pictures throughout help immensely with this level of detail. Each section is started out with an excellent, very personal recollection of the importance of the device at very important parts of life. This was the part I didn't expect but enjoyed the most. If you've ever picked up a handheld game from those simple TIGER ones to a Steam Deck you will enjoy this book!

I am a big fan of retro consoles and games. I bought this for some coffee table reading. It looks great and has so much information about games and consoles. Such a great book and feels like a great quality product. If you have a gamer in your life that enjoys the classics, this would be such a great gift.

If you're a fan of handheld and/or a collector, this book is practically mandatory to own. It's extremely well researched and contains a massive amount of information spanning several decades of handheld gaming history. My only minor complaint is the print resolution on more than a few of the book's images...some appear a bit faded or of low-resolution. It's a small observation that doesn't inhibit my enjoyment of the book, but I feel it warrants mentioning. Otherwise, this book is worth more than it's weight in gold. Very highly recommended!

This was a gift for my brothers birthday! He is really into history and gaming so of course I thought this was a perfect gift. It was! He had never seen it and it doesn’t seem to be able to be loaned from any of our local libraries. It is colorfully illustrated and easy to read.

Very informative book which is also packed with personal insights and memories and great imagery. Clearly created with a lot of love! Really my only complaint is that only a few pages are devoted to the Atari Lynx, which is a system near and dear to me. This was a bit disappointing and I think it deserved a bit more attention than to be lumped in with a lot of more obscure handhelds. Still though, a very well done book.

The book a Handheld History, shows everything from the Nintendo Gameboy generation to the Nintendo Switch generation and LE editions of handheld consoles pictured are in this book. It even talks about handheld gaming PC’s in here such as the Valve Steam Deck. Written also is the background story of how the consoles came to be. Well worth Amazons Price of the book.

This book is awesome, it has a well written history of handhelds and has good pictures.

Awesome book for anyone who has an interest or nostalgia for portable consoles history. It’s a solid book that’s filled with great artwork and design.

Nice to see such a book out there. While a lot of retro gaming books focus on games and systems, this one has something more to it. Sure, it talks about games and systems like all the other books, but it is also about stories and experiences people had with these systems, which make this book feel much more personal. You'll read stories about kids (back then) wrestling with their gameboy games while in car, using street lights to see the screen. Anyone who own these systems (like myself) back in the days can relate. This book brings back memories. Not just about the consoles, but about our time playing with these back in the days. It's well written, and the pictures are great. Photography is nice. Although the paper it is printed on doesn't give them justice. Still, a recommended read for everyone who was a kid back in the 90s and loved portable gaming.
