WOW!!! Worth every penny
Superb construction kit! I built the Airfix 1:144 scale Shuttle many years ago but this is a far more satisfactory model! Using the model "crawler" as a display stand gives the finished model a much more reallistic look! Couple of minor faults: some of the parts have excess flash that needs removing and the main fuel tank parts didn't mate unaided. Some filling may be required where the shuttle body halves meet and also the wing mountings The cargo hold detailing is great with payload and manipulating arm. Definitely not one for the kids, despite being described as 10+, it would make a good father-son project you could knock it together in a single sitting; but be prepared to spend a good 7 to 10 days to do this model justice! If you're prepared to spend the time and effort to complete it fully painted (paints not included) the effort is well worth it! The instructions are in multi-lingual format and require constant reference to an icon chart and paint numbers, for Revell paints (colour conversion charts are available on-line. The Decal sheet has masses of transfers which complete the look when applied; though for the colour bands on the boosters it might be better to paint them before final assembly rather than use the decals supplied (steady hand required for both) For the enthusiast it may be worth buying a second kit; build the shuttle in "flight" mode (cargo bay doors open) and rework the "crawler" to take a Saturn V model Airfix 1:144 Scale A11170 Nasa Apollo Saturn V Rocket Model Kit . This leaves the fuel tank and boosters to stretch the imagination!!! Enjoy hours of "fun" and contemplation away from the mind-numbing-box. You will get back what you put in! If you want a simpler space model try Airfix A11150 Saturn V Skylab 1:144 Scale Space Exploration Model Kit , Airfix A06172 Saturn 1B 1:144 Scale Space Exploration Model Kit , Airfix A50106 1:72 Scale NASA Space Exploration One Small Step for Man 40th Anniversary of the Moon Landing Gift Set with Paints, Glue and Brushes : enjoy!

Terrific kit and excellent value
I just took delivery of this kit and was surprised at the size of the box, which was well packaged and in perfect condition upon opening. Having checked the on-line Scalemates database, this is a 2021 release of an older kit however the parts look pretty accurate and although a few perfectionists may point out some minor points, I think the kit will make an excellent model and at £30, it’s truly excellent value for money. Some nice features include the mobile launch pad and the decals for 4 different shuttles so you can choose one that may mean something to you. I saw Discovery launch in 2010 (STS131) so I’ll build that one. A lot of these Revell kits available on Amazon are great value for money and the instructions are generally very good, especially the more recent ones. It’s labelled as a skill level 4 model and is best airbrushed to get a good paint finish but I’m sure less skilled / younger modellers would also have fun building this, without stressing over the degree of accuracy of the paint job. They can decide how many colours they want to buy for the smaller parts, as that will push the price upwards. Overall a great buy and I’d recommend it to anyone with an interest in space and NASA history in particular.

Worth buying, but not as good as later kits
I have built many kits recently - mostly space themed. I do find Revell kits far superior to Airfix at the moment. However, this kit is previous to the later kits (50th anniversary kits) and is not quite as good. The quality is acceptable and the finish not bad, although, as with all kits the more effort you put in, the better the result - no model should be rushed or it will be disappointing. The instructions are also below Revells usual high standard, but are still acceptable and with a little forward reading, easily understandable. Overall I would recommend this kit, but for real quality buy something from the new range (50th anniversary - black boxes). 4 out of 5 is fair and you will enjoy, although not many pieces to complete.

Good quality kit, enjoyed building it.
I bought this for my husband who has not built a kit for years, when he was young he built them all the time, but life has a way of getting in the way of hobbies don’t they, He says the kit was not too bad, it needed it a bit trimming and cleaning up , paint used were Revell satin model paint and spray paint rust oleum satin , he used plastic glue and super glue, the decal were fine . Once painted he then very finely used a spray varnish to seal the colours ands the transfers, but this must be done from a distance, the base was spray paint in grey . Finally the shuttle and rockets put together and put on the base. I think the end product far exceeds itself . And even though the pictures of it are good, the real thing is brilliant. So yes I would recommend this kit, enjoy it, be patient with it , and it will look great .

An Old Kit Now, Grab Them Whilst Its Still Around
This kit has been around for years now and as such, it won't be the most detailed kit and will require some patience and can-do ability. We have come a long way in injection-moulded kits! With many of the older kits, you will find that some bits don’t line up perfectly either. You will require some tools to do this including some paints (not supplied). The best part? This is quite a sizable kit and comes with a lot of transfers which can hide some crimes and give the kit some clean edges. It has all of the different designs (Endeavour, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis & Enterprise… I think that’s all of them?). I would decide which you want and look up some pictures of the era you would like. The instructions don’t really cover the difference between the era’s on the transfers section. You want it to look correct for the shuttle it is recreating right? 😊 The same goes for the painting on this. I found I painted some areas that were not necessary as the transfer will give you the straight lines and others that it said not to that did… Use your discretion. Oh.. Before I forget, Paint inside the shuttle black especially in the cockpit, that sucker will glow through and look really odd. Instructions will tell you to just paint one bit grey. It looked really light inside and broke the realism for me :) it looked too white and clearly hollow plastic I took mine a steep further than the kit. I created what is pictured. I had always seen them with the ‘Launch Look’ lighting etc. and well… Have you seen the price for them? No thanks. This was created actually quite easily using a TV LED strip (you can find them everywhere with a remote and USB powered do-hickey), cotton wool, and 2 bits of dowel drilling through the SRB’s exhaust nozzle (Solid Rocket Boosters) and the base transporter. It really presents the model. Have some fun with it! your imagination is your limit. I haven't made kits since I was a kid and really enjoyed this one. I'm nowhere near the best at them but, this was very rewarding when you see the end result. As I say, Grab them whilst you can. It's not a bad price for hours spent watching your love for the STS Shuttle come alive in your hands. Its also a talking point for all that see it :) I may have some friends lining up for me to make them one now though. haha :)

Nice Model, but....
It was a present for my partner. He said the model was nice , but the side rocket busters don't align to the pad correctly. The shuttle was very tricky to attach to the main tank, as the moulding were poor. So he had to make same modification, which he should not have for the price.

Awesome model kit
This model kit is awesome and massive! Got this to build in lockdown with my son and we enjoyed every bit, it’s relatively easy to assemble although you need a little patience as the parts needed some prep work before they could be assembled or painted (i find this a lot with revell models) the instructions were nice and clear and i like the way you get decals to make it into any of the 4 space shuttles (we chose the Discovery) i would highly reccomend this to any space or model fan but remeber when its built its almost 44cm high! Oh and a great service from amazon £10 cheaper than everyone else and arrived in 3 days.
