Twenty years after mysterious aliens nearly wiped out humankind, they’re back with a vengeance in the explosive sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence! Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth developed a vast defence program to protect the planet. But nothing could prepare us for the next invasion—and only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can save our world from extinction! Review: Very good - Loved the film Review: Independence day, resurgence - This is a brilliant sequel to the first film I recommend that it be watched. This film is not a warning of what could be because not all Alien species are malevolent some are benevolent and have only our advancement at heart.

A sequel finally arrives to 1996's 'Independence Day.' Familiarity with that film will help with seeing this. But you will doubtless have seen it if you do. It's twenty years after the human race beat the aliens and saved the Earth. Humanity and Those involved have moved on. But Stephen Hiller [Will Smith] has died in the meantime. Studying the alien technology has advanced human technology. Now we have have a space defence force and bases out in the solar system. To defend against the aliens should they come back. As some expect them to. What nobody quite expects is the scale of the return when it happens... This tries to do what the first film did. But be new by making the threat bigger. And bigger it is. To it's credit it is a proper sequel, as it does try to develop things from the first thing and show how the world has developed as a result. It also, by virtue of it's international defence force, makes it a totally international and not just American effort. Hollywood doesn't give the rest of the world cause to complain! Disgraceful I say! New characters mix with returning ones. It has to be said the latter do make more of an impression than the former by and large. Particularly Jeff Goldbum, David Levinson now in a position of authority. And Judd Hirsch. Once again doing the old Jewish dad routine talking about his ungrateful son and how anyone who disagrees is a putz! Both are superb light comedic actors and get great moments, especially when in scenes together where they have a great chemisty. His dad's relationship with a group of orphaned kids he falls in with is also played just right, never sentimental or humorous. The action is decent. The jeopardy level is good. A dog is caught up in that once again. [Don't panic you know how it's going to turn out]. What it can't quite offer is the shock of the new that the original gave us. But for fun science fiction action blockbuster escapism, it's not bad. So it's an entertaining watch. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options: Languages: English, Castilian Spanish, Italian. Subtitles: English, Castilian Spanish, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Italian. [Not all those are mentioned on the back of the box but I have checked the disc and the above is correct}. The disc begins with two generic adverts but you can skip those via the next button on the dvd remote. Extras: Eight minutes worth of deleted scenes. Can be watched individually or in a row. With or without director commentary. A commentary on the film from the director. Five galleries of concept art. Two cinema trailers and one tv ad for the film. A five minute long gag reel. Which is mostly silliness for the sake of it but has some fun moments and a great example of the old adage about working with animals. The war of 1996: a four minute long feature, a tv spot looking back on the events of 1996. This is pretty good. And it's early ABQ! Another especially made feature, which runs for three minutes and sees David's dad on breakfast tv to promote his book. This is hilarious and well worth a watch. Spot the surprise cameo as well..

Enjoyable Sequel
As a fan of the original film, I had to have this sequel. Full of many of the main cast, they still built a new story following up on the first one. Thoroughly enjoyable and recommended Elizabeth Hair

A SOLID SEQUEL!!!
This was a fantastic sequel to the groundbreaking first one back in (1996) WOW what an amazing follow up film. Now yes there is no (WILL SMITH) but we do have a lot of familiar faces here such as (Bill Pullman), (Jeff Goldblum), (Judd Hirsch) and (Brent Spiner) all from the original movie. The ACTION is just incredible and enjoyable, the story is solid and understandable, the plot is exciting and straight forward, and the effects are pretty dam GOOD. Acting here is good, and the original actors make it even better, with funny lines and craziness from Brent Spiner AKA Dr. Brakish Okun. This movie will keep you HOOKED to your seat from start to Finnish. NOT SURE WHY? people are giving this movie such negative responses, but hey we all have our own OPINIONS don't we!!! But i think it was just AMAZING and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS :) My ONLY NEGATIVE is they should have had WILL SMITH in it...... I give this movie a (9/10) (5 Stars)

Great on 4K but 20 years waiting for the return, only to be disappointed
Firstly my 3 star review isn't about the quality of this film on 4K, it looks and sounds amazing! It's just a huge disappointment of a sequel after 20 years of waiting. 20 years after the invasion, we see humanity using the alien technology to help improve transport as well as defenses. What I did love is seeing Bill Pullman reprise his role as former U.S. President James Whitmore, who is haunted by the events of the first invasion and is seemingly an old broken man. Jeff Goldblum is back as David who is now in an expert advisory role and his Dad, Julius is also back with Judd Hirsch making his return also. Brent Spiner returns as the long haired scientist Dr Okun, who many believed had died after being used by an alien for communication with President Whitmore but is actually in a coma that he has been in for 20 years. Seems a but far fetched that but great to see him back. He is accompanied by Dr Isaacs, again played by John Storey. There was no return for Will Smith and his character Captain Steven Hiller as apparently Will Smith wanted more money to reprise the role, so instead they wrote him out in this sequel. I was also disappointed to see no return of David's wife and Whitmore's assistant Connie, played by Margaret Colin. Seems her reconciliation with in the first film still didn't end up working out. Vivica Fox returns as Jasmine for a brief appearance but you'll see how quick she comes and goes. I felt this could have been handled so much better considering how important she was in the first film. Dylan is all grown up and is a pilot, as is President Whitmore's daughter Patricia Whitmore, following in her Father's footsteps. This film does delve into more about the origins of the aliens which is good but the film is so different from the original, it just feels too futuristic and written like a very expensive Sci-Fi Channel film with some big names attached. Such a disappointment to have waited 20 years, only to get this. There is a tease of a 3rd film but I can't see it happening.
