Violin Star 1, Student's book (Violin Star (ABRSM))

Great books to learn from as beginner. My music school use them so made sense to get my own.

Excellent and engaging, my 5 year old is doing really well with this book. He loves the Quentin Blake-esque illustrations and the pieces are well selected for beginners. Addition of audio and backing tracks by QR code is very helpful as well for learning to play along.

This book has 47 very simple violin parts which help a beginner with string crossing, simple fingering and the elements of reading music. The CD which comes with it has two versions of each part, the first part plus accompaniment (which in fact usually carries the real tune - the simple violin part is like a second violin part), the second accompaniment alone, so the young player can listen to it and then try it out, karaoke-fashion. This is good (and good fun) for practice. All of the tunes are attractive - eventually, for example, we're on to a Bach Musette, Silent Night, some pleasant old country dances, a tango, Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King (called 'Trolls, Orcs and Goblins' here) and The House of the Rising Sun. You can also buy another book separately with a piano accompaniment ; it''s good if you want the learner to play with a real person rather than a CD, but either works fine. The whole approach is clever and enjoyable, and it works. l

Helped daughter alot especially with the follow along CD.

Buy with earplugs, there is nothing more painful to the ears than a child learning violin. However this book and some practice made it a more pleasant experience for my ears.

Bought on recommendation of my child's school violin teacher as a starter book.

A good place to start for anyone of any age interested in learning violin. I like how the lessons progress by aiming to teach one small new thing at a time, instead of jumping forward and leaving a person confused. There are some nice tunes and backing tracks to play along with on the cd also, instead of just boring exercises. It doesn't teach any violin technique at all, but since the book starts with just open string playing you can pick up the basics along the way, as easily as I have. It helps if you have a basic understanding of reading music notation, but again, I found it easy enough to figure out when listening to the cd at the same time as looking at the book.

Primo libricino comprato per un bambina che sta iniziando a suonare il violino, come consigliato dalla maestra. Presenta una cinquantina di brani ed esercizi per principianti di musiche più o meno note ed orecchiabili che non stancano e non annoiano nemmeno dopo tanti tentativi passati sulle stesse pagine ad esercitarsi. Il metodo di insegnamento è furbo e studiato per attrarre i più piccoli verso lo studio di uno strumento difficile che in tanti casi può scoraggiare. La presenza del cd è un aiuto in più, carino e stimolante, aiuta i bambini ad immergersi nello strumento e li sprona a dare il meglio per arrivare anche loro a quel livello.

Got this book for our granddaughter to play violin songs. She loved it so much

Les enfants se régalent et moi aussi avec ces petits morceaux simples et variés, avec des arrangements orchestraux, tantôt folkloriques, tantôt reprises connues, ou compositions. L'apprentissage des notes est très progressif mais ça fonctionne très bien !
