Batik, Tie Dyeing, Stenciling, Silk Screen, Block Printing: The Hand Decoration of Fabrics

You'll be very busy making stuff. Another Dover winner. The other book for serious artists is, believe it or not, iSalvadore Dali's "50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship". Ignore his bombasity and follow his teaching and darn -I didn't need all those years of school.

WONDERFUL! DID SOME GREAT ART OUT OF HERE

This was my text in graduate school but I lost my copy. It's a good primer for all sorts of techniques. It is a bit dated in terms of tools and equipment but the basics are still credible. It's certainly not a beginner book (i.e. You Tube would be a better bet for this audience.) but a good "go to" for artists seriously interested in these techniques.

Awful. The only color picture is on the cover. Old. Fuzzy. Black and white pix. The first category is Batik which is a pitifully few examples of the application.. Can’t imagine that either a novice or pro could get any artist or information from this book. No ‘zero’ stars available Returning immediately.

Always love these books

This is an older book. It does cover the basics very well. But, technology has left this book somewhat behind.

I love textile art and this is a wonderful addition to my library. A couple of new ideas and techniques for me to try out.

If I had known this was such dated information (published in the 1950s) I wouldn't have bought the book. No modern materials, no colour photos.
