Incredible tool
I let Bas know how awesome it works for me on social media; just had to give this thing props on Amazon too. It's that good. I am a lifter that's had circulatory issues for as long as I can remember starting with a deviated symptom and other issues I won't mention. Sometimes I use it on the treadmill, between lifting sets, and during. This alone has improved my ability so sing+scream heavy metal and hardcore. I can now hold notes significantly longer and felt a difference in my lung capactiy and entire diaphragm. This thing rules. Thanks again, Bas!

It Works Because It's Practical
After reading about this product, I wasn't sure if it would actually do anything, or if it would merely produce nothing more than a placebo type effect. After about a month of use during routine exercise, I noticed a marked difference in how quickly my breathing recovered when I didn't have the O2 Trainer. And I have only made my way to the fifth resistance cap. This O2 trainer is great because it is a practical size to actually bring along with you in a bag, it does not cover your face like an alien face hugger, cleaning is quick and easy, switching out the resistance caps is straightforward, and it all stores in a simple case. It is easy to bring along and grab before a workout or take along to work. There is nothing to break on it as it's made out of a rubber-type material. This is huge because I can just throw it in a bag and not worry that the bag gets sat on or crushed by something. I don't have to worry about scratching a faceplate or cross-threading a screw-on attachment. It comes in two simple colors, so there is no need to buy an outrageous neoprene sleeve to "hide" your device or anything. Wearing it is intuitive and doesn't require special training or practice. Also, for those who look at other O2 trainers as I did and notice that this device fails to cover the nose, realize that you can breathe out of your mouth, or use the nose clip that is included. All in all, this was a great purchase, affordable, durable, and is actually showing results that I can feel. To speak to the issue of saliva build-up in the device: Yes, it does tend to build up as your workout length or intensity does, but I will admit that I have been using it exclusively outdoors and it has not been an issue for that reason. It's not any more than you would get breathing into any device. Condensation will accumulate, but I believe it is manageable. Bottom Line: If you are looking for O2 resistance in a device that is practical and easy to integrate into whatever you want to do, the Bas Rutten O2 Trainer answers the mail.

Simple Product and it works
I stumbled upon this product through an advertisement on sherdog.com and decided to buy it through amazon. I am 46 and in very good shape. I do lots of high intensity interval training - primarily 12 to 16 minute tabatas. I thought the logic behind this product made sense to improve my breathing during my workouts which usually leave me out of breath when complete. I began last Wednesday by doing the recommended breathing exercises and then did my first workout using the #1 filter. I had no problem with it and my next workout the next day I used the #2. I used #3 on my Saturday and Sunday workouts and used the #5 today (Monday). I definitely feel it getting tougher now to breath in but have not slowed much in my workouts or am I gasping for air doing my intervals. I may up the filter to #6 on my next workout but I think this week is more of an experimental period and think I will likely be increasing the filters at a much slower rate in upcoming weeks. If you just started exercising I wouldn't recommend using this device until you can consistently get through your workouts and workout often. I think it is excellent for for anyone trying to improve their breathing and fitness levels. One thing I have noticed is that as soon as my workout is over and I remove the o2trainer from my mouth and the nose clip - I notice I am not panting like I usually do. When I am not doing anything strenuous during the day my breathing feels very relaxed and effortless. It is a good feeling. The saliva problem that many reviewers mentioned is no big deal for me. I work out in my own garage gym and sometimes on rest intervals I pop it out and wipe it off really quick and pop it back in my mouth. I used it for burpees, sprints on the air-dyne bike, jumping rope/double-unders, thrusters etc and have no problems with it and other than making my breathing sound louder it is a comfortable device and I plan to keep using it. It makes you more aware of how you are breathing which I think is a good thing during a workout. I will follow up this review in a few weeks. So far I am impressed. I want to see how this translates into how I feel when I am running trails. If I feel like I can run forever then I will give this product one extra star.

I am almost 40 and for my whole life I have felt like my cardio system was the weakest link in my body. I am fine with low rep heavy lifting but whenever it came to running or boxing I felt like I would always be out of breath within a few minutes. Doing more cardio helps of course but I could not help shake the feeling that there was something wrong with me, that for all the effort I put into the cardio I should be performing better than I was. I heard about this thing on Bas' Youtube channel and I did some reading around. I was skeptical. It seemed to me like you could just get the exact same effect breathing through a straw. But I love Bas' personality and have laughed many times at his crazy Youtube videos so I figured I would trust him and give this thing a try. So basically this thing restricts airflow when you are breathing in, and there is a valve that allows you to breathe out as quickly as you want. So you are only stressing the inspiratory muscles used for breathing in. And because your outward breath happens so quickly, effectively you are straining your inspiratory muscles 90% of the time that you are breathing. The load becomes almost continuous. It comes with a wide variety of hole sizes for people of all abilities. The widest hole (#1) is almost zero resistance and would be suitable for a senior with breathing difficulties. As a dude with above average fitness I started at #6. From the very first session I could feel some soreness in the muscles around my ribs, which I knew could only be a good thing. It means I was going to become stronger! Having one way resistance versus breathing through a straw was a big difference. I don't know how to describe it but from the first few breaths with this thing I could tell something was different to continuous airflow restriction. The more sessions I used it, the more I felt soreness in muscles that I never knew I had. Muscles that clearly had never been trained before my whole life. I progressed quickly and I decreased the hole diameter by about 1 with each session. Now I am on hole #11, which is very significant resistance and I think I am going to stay here for a while. Hole #12 would be for literal professional athletes. Now when I am running or boxing I just don't feel out of breath. My heart rate still hits 170 like before but I am not gasping for air. It is really weird it almost feels like a super power! I can literally feel several mm thick of muscle around my ribs that I never had before my whole life. It feels awesome. I can expand my ribcage now to a size I never thought possible for my skeleton. It looks like the massive chest poses Arnold did in bodybuilding. This whole thing is mindblowing to me. I have been hitting the weights and bikes for more than 20 years and still nothing ever properly trained my breathing muscles all this time?! Why aren't more people talking about this?! The only downside is that I feel like it is expensive for what it is - basically some molded pieces of rubber. Also it smells/tastes weird and.. well... rubbery. But it works, and it works even better than I expected, and Bas is awesome so 5 stars. One reviewer was complaining that this thing caused him to lose his voice. I don't know what's up with that guy, but that sure as hell hasn't been a problem with me.
