These ESP8266 modules work great
I bought a few good ones, then needing more- I tried some less expensive ones. Those were junk- the USB-Serial driver actually messed up Windows (and I had to restore an HDD image from the previous day).Spend a couple bucks more and get ones like this. They simply work.

All 5 worked great!
I had to search for some documentation help and every standard ESP8266 NodeMCU documentation / examples that I tried (4 different projects) worked. Also, read the "Product description" section at the bottom for instructions chip setup.

Works well. Fits in a breadboard. Works with PlatformIO
This is an ESP32. It has Bluetooth and WiFi and all the things you would expect an ESP32 to have. The USB type C is a welcome addition, and I will never buy a dev board without it again. This does indeed fit into a breadboard. There is only one annoying thing about this board, and that is the rather bright amber LED that seems to be connected directly to the voltage regulator and cannot be controlled at all. Thankfully it's not a piercing blue LED. There is a blue LED on the ESP module itself that you can control, but it's a quality blue LED that's not blinding. For those who wish to program this in something other than the Arduino IDE: I got it working in PlatformIO by first installing the c'p210x drivers and then using the "esp32dev" board option when creating a platformIO project in VScode. You can then either use the Arduino framework or the Espressif framework to program the board. The latter gives you access to some fancy ESP-specific features like its ultra low-power sleep state

OMG -- Why the Perfume???
I really wanted to use these but even before I opened the bag they were packed in a strong perfume smell was obvious. Once I opened the bag it was toooooo much. And I'm not sensitive to perfumes or smells. But, wow. I can't imagine how these ESP chips got covered in such a strong perfume. I couldn't stand it so I put them out in the shed and it took days to get the smell out of the house. What the heck???

Works for me with esp-link
Good price. Worked well, as soon as I followed the directions given here by the seller ("The important part is —flash mode dio”). I flashed it with esp-link, and it worked right away. Thanks!

To get it to upload without pushing the flash button we have to install the driver from silicon webs
Good product great value for the money!!! These boards take a little longer to compile though
