I found this cane webbing to be extremely brittle and prone to breaking. I needed to replace the seats in 4 chairs. I completed 3 charts successfully with cane from another source, but after waiting nearly 3 months for delivery on back order, I ordered from this source. Most experts suggest soaking the cane for 20-30 minutes to make it pliable before installing. I initially soaked it for 4 hours in warm water. Upon inserting the first 3 splines, they all cracked. I then soaked the cane for 2 days, still stiff, then dipped the ends in boiling water for approximately 20 minutes. About 15% of the canes cracked in two when inserting into the groove. I intentionally used an excess amount of glue in the grove, then fit the spline. I have numerous broken canes at the grove edge.This cane matting will probably be acceptable if used where it need not be bent, just flat. Do not waste your money on it if you need to install it in a chair with a spline groove.
