This soil is terrific for starting seeds
This soil is terrific for starting seeds or rooting new plants. I do find it tricky to get my usual seed starting soil from the nursery now that they have discontinued my favorite blend, but this soil is my new favorite. Just in time for spring.

Not at all as described. It's just twigs & dirt.
This product is NOT a seed starter. It has nothing it claims to have, and is nothing but low quality twigs and dirt. I couldn't even fill my seed starter trays, because it's 90% twigs. I'll be honest, it looks like they just scooped up some Georgia swamp dirt, and packaged it as something fancy. There is no drainage because the twigs retain the moisture, it smells like rotted wood and looks (appearance) nothing like any seed starter I've ever used. I went ahead and planted some seeds in it. If I actually grow a plant, I will update my review.

Great Seed Starter
This is, by far, the best seed starting mix I have found and at a good price. I start a small pot every week for the purpose of growing a continual supply of fresh greens for my indoor only cats. The soil easily soaks up water, unlike other starters that seem to be water resistant. I water the soil down, throw the seeds on top, and cover with a little more starter mix. Water down and 48 hours later they break soil. The starter mix also soaks water up, from the bottom, better than any other mix I have tried. I water from the bottom so as to not disturb the seeds. Very happy. I will be buying more as this is a year round process.

Great price, too chunky for seed starting
This is more like regular potting soil. It has large pieces of bark and sticks and some small stones. It could be sifted and used for starting seeds, but as is it was much too chunky and not fluffy enough. After adding water and planting seeds it became rock hard after a couple days. Seeds had trouble growing through the compacted soil. If you sift it and add some coco coir or something to fluff it up, it works great for starting seeds.

Good to start seedlings
I like the texture of this potting soil. The seeds I planted germinated quickly.

This is not the texture of Seed starting mix.
When I saw this, I was excited to try it as it had everything in the product that I wanted. However, when I started to use this to start my seeds this week, I was surprised by how many big sticks and pebbles were in it. There were large clumps of stuff that was hard to breakdown. I think it needs to be broken down more. I will see how my seeds fare and if it turns out great, I will update my review. If I purchase again, I will have to sift it to a finer consistency, so it is more to my liking.

First Prize for Worst Sprouting Mix Ever
Title says it all. This is literally the worst sprouting mix I've ever purchased. All the seeds I started in it with my usual protocols are stunted, yellowing, and under 2" tall when they should already be foot-high plantlings. The ones I started in trays with Jiffy starting mix did fine. The texture is terrible. It's oddly sandy. Seedlings sprout and then fail to get to usual transplant size before going yellow and showing suppressed growth. Don't buy this product if you want success. I want my money back, but I want the lost productivity from this year's garden back more.
