Beautifully crafted, mature-looking
I've been browsing for notebooks for my college courses for awhile, and I came across the Midori MD notebook a few weeks ago by accident. I think I instantly fell in love. This past year I've been getting more into bullet journaling and improving my studying habits by actively taking the time to enjoy my stationary supplies. I think this notebook blows everything else out of the water. There are tons of options for notebooks and journals out there; so don't get me wrong, you might not find this to be your cup of tea. The A5 is relatively small, not necessarily ideal for those who would prefer more space for writing in their professional or personal lives. However, what it lacks in size and thickness, it makes up for in craftsmanship. The MD feels so amazing to hold. Smooth and nicely weighted. Not to mention the best feature of all: the binding that allows it to lay flat. PRAISE the creators of this notebook! This would be perfect for sketching out in the field or for those with an artistic side if you choose the blank version of the notebook. As an engineering student, I prefer the grid version. However, my artistic side is tempted to indulge in the blank version as well. If you are taking any language courses, particularly Asian languages like Mandarin and Japanese, this would be excellent for writing characters and practicing your calligraphy. In fact, I think it was intended for Japanese kanji script. This might not be as cheap as other notebooks, but I love how unique it is. I was willing to pay a little more for something that I had a gut feeling would be crafted nicely and be most efficient at getting me to actually write and pay attention to my notes! I plan on updating this review in a few weeks to give my full opinion, but so far I am impressed. If you're looking for something different from the cheap plastic notebooks you've been using all your life, give this a shot. You might really enjoy it.

My new fountain pen favorite!
This is replacing my previous favorite Tomoe River for my daily journaling. I use various fountain pens and inks, and the paper is wonderful with them all. What makes it even better than Tomoe River is that there is very little to no grin through, which makes it easier to write on both sides. I tend to write small-ish, so the line width, which is much thinner than the standard western size, works for me, and the blue grid doesn't bother me at all. Only downside is the high price, comparable to Tomoe River, which is also not the most affordable. May just go with Muji's unlined thin paper notebooks since I tend to go through a lot of paper...

Japanese=amazing quality!
These notebooks are simply brilliant and the quality is amazing. Pro's: -The paper is thick enough so that fountain or ink pens do not bleed through. -The paper quality and texture is excellent--no bleeding around the edges or blotching when writing with fountain pens or ink. -Consistent quality--I've ordered 6 of these so far and they are always consistently amazing. -Spine is incredible--folds nice and flat to make writing easy. Con's: --Price is a little steep but I still think it's fair for the quality.

Great Notebooks!!
Great notebooks. I bought the 2 pack set. Price is even better. Please give a try to these great notebooks! The size is about right for me. I have an A4 notebook for work related and I use this small A5 for to-do list and some more personal writings. Midori claims that the lack of cover is because they think that the notebook is perfect as it is. I agree BUT at the same time, I am affraid that if you do not buy a cover, will be dirty very soon so I bought a clear cover (not shown on picture). A5 size is 148 x 210 mm (5.8 x 8.3 in).

Would buy again
I bought the 2-pack for my Sohospark refillable journal. I write the year(s) my journal is in use on the spine, and this spine makes it really ugly, the ink spreads and it's just not a good time. I didn't think the ink was going to spread so much on the spine, next time I'll use a piece of tape. In general, the booklet feels thinner than the Sohospark Refill, but I like the color of the paper (it's an off-white, kind of yellowing color). I can also get 2 of these for just a bit more than 1 Sohospark refill, so I will probably continue using these. It fits the Sohospark (Vegan) Leather journal without any trimming or overhang and looks very nice alongside the leather. I use Arteza rollerball pens, found on Amazon. The ink dries very fast on other paper so I thought there'd be no issue here, but no, it stays wet, and then if I turn the page the ink will bleed together like a Rorschach test. I found this out when trying to number the pages, and now some numbers are just smears and gross. Features I wish I had: - numbered pages or a spot to put page numbers - thicker paper, while numbering the pages I could see a LOT of ghosting - better absorbency for pen ink?? I don't know how to fix that tbh besides for me to not be impatient Features I like: - grid has measurements along the edges, as others have mentioned - there is a blank margin around the grid and edge of the paper which right now is serving as a spot to number the pages but in the future, I am thinking of using some markers to color these margins in order to color the outside of the booklet and ergo color-code the book. - the price was heckin good for 2 refills - the grid is subtle enough that I would feel okay adding sketches to this journal, which is a big deal for me- I love grid/graph paper but some grids can be very very dark on the paper and make it feel awkward if you step out of a box, this one is not that way, so if you just journal and need occasional measurements I would say that this is a good notebook for you - lays flat on its own & in the Sohospark cover Overall: will probably buy again, will be smarter with pen usage and ink drying before flipping pages, the cons are rather minor in the grand scheme and mostly my own human error & nitpicking
