This book is justly famous as a precursor to what's now called British humour. It's a semdup of the times in so many ways. It's fun, it's beautifully expressed, and much more than just "readable". It's one of my favourites, and I made a point of making sure I had a new copy. If you want some privacy, just say you're researching 19th century literature and you'll get a bit of peace.
