Momentary switch
I did not find the literature clear in the ad, so be aware that this is a momentary switch. I think it would be very difficult to use as a foot switch. That said if you were looking for a momentary switch, this thing functions very well.

Great, but not what I needed...
It works as advertised, but to be clear... This is a solid piece of gear, and I have other Rolls products I like, but to be clear this is for temporary mute or talk while you push the button, not a "switch on/off" button. This is only a temporary mute, having to hold the button down to mute or talk if you set it the other way. I am a singing drummer and am looking for a toggle switch that will keep the mic muted while I am not singing. Something I don't have to keep pressed down to stay muted. This is NOT that product. If you need a quick mute to sneeze or cough if you are a podcaster or sing full time (front man or woman), this could work for you. I am not going to give it less stars because it wasn't what I needed. It does what it should and it's a good value.

Great mute switch
Absolutely, a great product by ROLLS. It is user selectable (easy external access) to function as either a Press to Mute or Press to Talk. I received mine factory set to Press to Talk. I especially like the switch's surface since it can be comfortably operated by hand if it is used as a table mount or by foot (bare feet friendly) if its on the ground. It is suitable for both dynamic and condenser microphones. Depending on the instance/timing of pressing the switch, if it is pressed in the middle of a word/phrase, the switching may generate a slight noise. However, for the purposes of muting for a cough or a sneeze and activating the switch during a silent moment, there is no an issue at all. It is very sturdy built, and best of all it is "Made In USA"! Highly recommended.

Easy to set up and use
Why did you pick this product vs others?: this unit works great for muting the mic when recording in a loop to prevent crowd noise from entering the loop...

Worked perfectly..... for a year
Even though I feel like I got my money's worth, I was upset that it began getting stuck in the "on" position after just a year of solid use. I inspected every corner, made sure my internal switch wasn't stuck, and cleaned it as much as I could without disassembling it (which is next). I use it to mute my talk back mic from a control room to a recording studio. It never left the room so there was really no wear and tear besides stepping on it (from a chair, so less than 50 lbs - not my entire body weight) You would think a foot pedal would be built sturdy enough to be stepped on a for at least a few years. Maybe I got a bad build but it began getting stuck and leaving my mic on when it should be muted. I need my hands free so I can type and control other devices so the foot pedal is perfect, but I may need to get a top of desk version - unless someone can recommend a sturdier and more reliable foot pedal.

Why did you choose this product over others?: I was looking for an item that would make a good talk back system for my studio and the ROLLS M11 PRO looked the closest thing to my search. It's a momentary push button system that is activated only when the button is pressed via hand or foot, it caters for 48v & with a decent 48v LAV Mic it works excellently as a talk back system. There's a side switch to change it from a "mic mute" to a "mic activate" system and can say at 1st hand this product is not disappointing.................Great item!

I was a bit nervous about this product as I purchased it before noting a review where one owner reported an audible click when using the switch to cut the mic in and out. I've now owned mine for approximately a month and have used it successfully with the following Behringer, Shure, Blue Yeti, and Heil microphones. All of my cabling is shielded XLR - not cheap stuff, either. The latter two require 48V Phantom power. The ROLLS MicMute has performed flawlessly. I've not once encountered an audible click when using this unit set to PTT (my default) or PTM (just for testing). The construction is excellent and my teen daughter has already performed several bounce tests of the unit as she is rather brain dead early in the morning. (Argh.) The unit bounced off a cement driveway rather nicely, although that test wasn't planned in advance. Very pleased with this purchase and am budgeting for two more after X-mas if the missus doesn't take the hint and get them for me as prezzies instead. These are worth owning. Update: Oct 24, 2015 -- Just ordered a second unit. We often podcast as a team and need two of these when doing sports commentary.

A very solid build with this switch, which indicates it should last many years. It's made in the USA and not China, which might explain its one weakness, price. Other than price it works 100%.

If you are a podcaster, announcer, make YouTube videos, are in a studio, or do anything where you talk in a mic and hate editing out after the fact this thing is AMAZING. When recording a drum tutorial I can not set a gate on the vocal mic that will block a rim shot yet still capture my voice. The push to talk on here solves all my problems. It also does push to mute if you are an announcer or podcaster and are about to sneeze, or say something off the air. It is quiet, clean sounding, and works 100%. I enjoy helping consumers make informed decisions. Thank you very much for the 'Yes' helpful vote, and please feel free to comment or ask questions related to this product or other items I have reviewed on Amazon.
