The sump and sewer ejector pump float switch with the highest reliability
If you want a “set and forget” sump or sewer ejector pump, one of the best things you can do is NOT buy a pump with a built-in vertical float switch. Cast iron pumps can last up to two decades; vertical float switches can fail in a year or two. If the vertical switch is built into the pump, you may need to trash a $400 pump when a $30 float switch fails. A better approach is to use an external piggyback type float switch. That way if the float switch fails, you can easily and inexpensively replace only the float switch and keep using the pump. The best external float switch type for most residential sump and/or sewer ejector pumps is a tethered piggyback type like this one from PumpSpy. Best in terms of simplicity and long term reliability. There are reports that tethered float switches can last for decades. We haven’t been using them for anywhere near that long, but the switch mechanisms are designed for millions of activations and there isn’t much to go wrong with this float switch design. PumpSpy’s tethered float switch is about half the cost of a similar design from Zoeller, and a third the cost of a similar design from Sludge Boss/Pit Alarm. We’ve been using this float switch for a while and find it sufficiently buoyant and completely reliable. The only cons? The PumpSpy tethered float switch has a molded seam on its exterior that potentially could catch on TP or other suspended solids in a sewer ejector basin. The Zoeller and Sludge Boss tethered floats are both completely smooth on the exterior. The PumpSpy tethered float also is smaller than the Zoeller model and a lot smaller than the Sludge Boss model so its maximum buoyancy will be less. Smaller size is a plus for smaller sump pits, but the thicker the suspended solids in a sewer pit the greater the need for higher buoyancy. All in all, for us the PumpSpy float has always had sufficient buoyancy.

Used for draining overflowing well
Had an issue with my well over filling. Use this with a pump to draw out 50th gallons (about 6”) when the water table gets to high. In the spring it was going off every hour to two hours. Summer I think it’s about 1 time in the early morning it goes off. It was easy to install and has worked over the last 7 months it has been installed for this issue. When we first installed it did catch on something so the float wasn’t engaging. But once we moved it over a smidge and it wasn’t catching on the hatch the system went through, worked like a charm ever since. Would buy again.

Sump Pump not running FIXED
Sump pump stopped activating due to some issues with reading water level. Installed this device and it's able to keep the water flowing out. Looks fine after long months of use and rain. Does not use much power as it only comes on when upright. I see this lasting long.

good product, recommend to anyone to keep as a backup for sump pump
this is the simplest remedy if the float switch on your sump pump goes bad, typically what happens is the pump stays in the "on" position which means pump runs continuously and will ultimately burn up a $260-400 sump pump. This switch simply plugs in between the pump electrical cord and your power source. The only thing you have to do is adjust the amount of movement that the Pumpspy float needs to turn on your pump at the proper water level and then turn off. This switch now gives you much more flexibility in managing your pump's time in use to either a longer cycle or a shorter vs the float switch mounted on pumps (mine are all Zoeller) that are pre-fixed. Buy one (less than $30) and have more peace of mind when hurricane season is upon you.

Check the floater length beforehand
Solid built but the floater may not work properly due to the short length

Seems well built. Time will tell as to whether it lasts more than a few years in the work environment. I got 3 of these, and for 2 of them cut off the plug and hardwired them in. One thing i noticed was that although they are a 3-prong plug, there are only 2 wires in the cord. I don’t know what the ground connects to, or if this is normal?

I have no complaints about this product. I've had this float switch in service for quite some time now and it's been working perfectly. Keep in mind, this type of switch is long throw and is meant to be used in applications such as a sump assembly. Mine is in such an application and is keeping my utility room behind the garage from flooding during rain.
