I had the mini edition but found it, with my eyesight, a bit difficult to follow; plus it was a bit fiddly turning the pages. I have now replaced it with the proper-sized edition and I find it excellent: lots of familiar, likeable tunes with interesting and varied chord changes. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Excellent book.

Great little book

A huge disappopintment. I have had the New Real Books Vols 1 & 2, and the Just Jazz Real Book, for many years, and having this week come across this publication entirely by accident, I was looking forward to supplementing them. I have no complaints about the song list - it suits me fine; a quick browse suggests the greater part are from the 40s and 50s, with plenty of earlier pre WWII stuff, maybe rather less from the 70s. and little or nothing later than this (Buskers Books fill that gap). The problem is the design and layout. I'm your average amateur with arranger keboards and organs, and I've been reading from chord symbols for 45 years, and desire nothing more. All this time, I've recognised minor chords as Am7, Cm. etc - but in this book I'm supposed to recognise A-7, C-, etc. This is subliminal stuff, and you can't change seamlessly just like that after 45 years, especially at my age. I also find the imitation handwritten symbols difficult to interpret at a glance, and whilst the imitation handwriting scrawl in which chords like B7sus4 and F(sharp)7sus4 are printed might be legible to the fellow who wrote them, I can't even read what they are without pausing to lean forward. My playing is bad enough without these added handicaps... And there are no lyrics, either. I have 35 song books and piles of sheet music collected over 45 years, all with chord symbols - and this is the first such book I've ever seen using this system, and the only one without lyrics. I've hastily cancelled my orders for Vols 4 and 5, and hope I'm in time.

I only just got it but I have found some strange typos including ‘Crazy He Halls Me’ instead of ‘Crazy He Calls Me’ and ‘Ballad for Trance’ instead of ‘Ballad for Trane’. It does make me wonder how much care has been taken with the chords and melodies. Completely inexcusable in my opinion.

Sul primo volume non c'è scritto "primo volume" perché il primo volume è "IL real book", Questo è il terzo. La serie ne contiene al momento sei. Personalmente ritengo che potrei ripetere poi qui quello che ho già scritto a proposito del "primo volume".

Das Buch ist sehr interessant und vielseitig. Allerdings sind wegen der Vielseitigkeit nicht alle Stücke für jedermann spielbar, aber eine Au.slese zu treffen ist zumutbar. Sehr gut ist der grosse Druck, so dass man auch unter nicht optimalen Lichtverhältnissen die gut geschriebenen Harmonien und Noten erkennen kann

If you have the good sense to explore the Great American Songbook, you can't do much better than this set of books. III is loaded with great music. I've been really happy with the contents of I, I, III and VI. Not so much with V, but it's all just a bunch of notes anyway, right? Fewer true classics in V, more post 60's I should say, and fewer of the truly great songs of the other books. Still, the transcripts in all the books quite good, true and readable. They're all bargains. We're lucky to live in an age where this is available and affordable.

Article correspondant à mes attentes, reçu en très bon état. Je le conseille fortement à tous les amateurs de jazz.
