Peltor 3M Optime 101 Helmet Attachable Earmuff

One earmuff on my Stihl hard hat broke so I bought a set of these peltors. With a little heat, the old muffs came off and these snap right in. The problem was how to mount the flip-down screen. 4 zip-ties thru the new muff’s holes solved that problem and the screen works better than before. See pictures. These are better muffs than original and fit very comfortably.

These ear muffs are perfect! They snap right into the hard hat with little effort and have very simple but effective adjustments. I work around a wood chipper all day so the noise was unbearable without ear protection. These did the job! I can hardly hear the chipper running while wearing them. The only issue I had was that the first couple of days in the heat, after sweating, around my ears became raw and itched but within 3 days it was not an issue. I suppose it was either the ear muffs being new or my skin grew used to them. Overall these are perfect!

Pros: Relatively Inexpensive. Convenient, on demand. Eliminates cumbersome searching for earplugs. Minimizes fear of losing expensive ear molds, unless you lose the entire hardhat itself. Amazing sound coverage while allowing moderate talking levels. Can dual protect w/ earplugs, increasing ear protection. Stabilizes hardhat from falling off head. Possible to integrate with headlamp without conflict. Makes you look like you've been in the trade for awhile. Secure and durable attachment. Cons: Since it's a permanent attachment, it can get dusty, remember to periodically clean, or risk ear infection of some sort. Additional uneven weight distribution to hardhat, adjust according to balance weight. Difficulty working in tight spaces => Hardhat must be on head for effective protection. This is where ear plugs come in, if necessary. Color. (Personal Preference)

The product easily fastened to the helmet. The mechanism allowed the ear pieces to hold securely to the ear and release with no issues. The helmet liner for winter conditions did not hinder the ear pieces pressure against the ear. Great Product!
