Much, much better than the similarly-priced competition, just all sounds in general are better, even the keybed, too, though Kross2 has some synth sounds and sound design capabilities that the Juno lacks (and vice versa). Strictly speaking of sounds. Too bad that none have grand piano quality like the Yamaha P-125 or Roland FP30, but some compromises have to be made to bring on all the extra sounds and other features that these kinds of keyboards bring.

Q: can you build synth sounds from scratch?

Absolutely, you can even load your own samples and build new patches with them.

Q: Can a normal yamaha sustain pedal be used with it like an FC5 or does roland have its own pedals?

A generic sustain pedal should work fine
