I recently bought a Philips 5400 bean to cup coffee machine which I’m really pleased with. Of course, there’s always a need with these types of machine to clean them, descale them and so on. With my particular machine it’s necessary to remove the “brew group” from the machine and rinse it under the tap (that’s the part of the machine that compacts the ground coffee and forces hot water through it to make espresso). That’s a once-a-week process but every month you’re supposed to use one of these Coffee Oil Remover tablets to remove coffee oils and other residues from the mechanism. This seems a sensible thing to do as you’re not supposed to use detergent when doing the weekly rinsing process. Methods for using the tablets vary according to machine but with mine you basically fill the water tank with fresh water, put a tablet in the pre-ground coffee compartment and put a container under the coffee spout to catch the waste water while the process is running. Overall for me the process takes just over five minutes which seems pretty quick. So there isn’t much to it really. The tablets are easy to remove from the blister pack, the waste water comes out suitably muddy in colour and the “brew group” looks much cleaner afterwards. No aftertaste or smell and the machine is ready to use again and will hopefully stay working efficiently for years to come. A decent product at a reasonable price.
