My mat says bamboo not teak. How is this company allowed to claim this is teak, which is much more expensive?

I have no idea - but it is a very nice mat. I have had mine for six months now and it is doing wonderfully well. Really love it!!!

Can you sit on this in the tub or is it just for standing when showering?

You probably could sit on it but the creases are a little wide and you might get lines on your bum

What teak oil do you use to help preserve and waterproof it?

have not done any of that. I use it usually daily and so far have not noticed any issues. I would not use anything as the oil will probably do more harm to your plumbing than actually help preserve the shower mat. Teak is a wood that can sustain a lot of moisture that is why it is used in sauna, etc.

How wide is each individual slat? What is the measurement of the space between the slats? How much weight can the mat hold?

Each slat is approximately 1 and 7/16 inch wide the space between is 5/16 inch. I don't know how much total weight it will hold but it supports my 230 pounds with no problem.
