OMG - my husband and I LOVE this game.
I purchased Wingspan after I read an article about how the creator developed the game. I found myself able to relate to her frustration with other games. I did find it a bit tricky to get the game started at first (as with all more complicated games that have a lot of items/elements), however, once that was sorted, it has been a really fun game to play. My husband and I play it every day and I enjoy it because it does rely on part strategy and part luck - unlike other games where it's almost one or the other. The things I like about this game the most are the materials it is made of + it has a set up where you can play solo (like solitaire). It really is quite genius. I purchased both the extension packs at the same time but have not opened them yet as we are still enjoying the original one. I highly recommend this game to anyone that likes a game with strategy.

Gently competitive
The quick-start is super helpful to ease yourself into the world of Wingspan - and we got hooked! Different challenges each game keep things interesting, the pace picks up once you have been through a game or two and it’s a good family game where nobody has a particular advantage.

One of the best board games
Wingspan is definitely one of the best board games. Its a casual engine building game featuring birds, and can be played, solo as well as competitively with 2-4 players. The components are of excellent quantity, and the bird cards are beautiful and very very informative! The swift starter pack helps in getting you started immediately and offers you 10 additional bird cards as well. Easy to learn and lots of replayability value. Game sessions last from 40 minutes (solo), and 50-90 minutes (with 2+ players)

Great family game
I initially found the rules quite complicated but soon got the hang of it. It is a lot of fun and very interesting to learn about the birds. The scoring has many components, including secret ones and it is not always obvious who has won until you do the maths at the end of the game and this creates an exciting finish.

I bought this game against my GF's will (she said we had enough games). Well, for the first time in a long time she was wrong... She and I (I don't really love board games) fell in love with this game. It's nice. Not 2 games are the same and there are a thousand ways to win. We are considering buying the expansions too

Wingspan is an amazing board game thats fun to play with 2 or more players. The boards and tge cards holder and the eggs and the bird feeder all are well made and has a touch of luxury to them. The game can be won with multiple different strategies and approaches which adds to the fun and increase the life of the game. Recommended for sure!

Great game. The simplicity of the game is a great selling point. We tried playing Arkham Horror and realized we might have to return it due to the complexity and ambiguity of many of the rules (as well as the not-as-fun gameplay as we expected). I only say this to say that if anyone reviews this as a complex game it is because they must be used to VERY simple games. This is hardly complex. There are literally only 4 things you can do every turn, and you keep on doing those 4 things until the round is done. The strategy is in how you want to get points - which of those 4 things you do in what order matter a lot as they have to match your strategy and your way to win. But again, you can only do 4 things so if someone is calling it complex or difficult it really is on them more than on the game. For a game with such simple mechanics we found it engaging. It doesn't have much communication involved, this is true. But it's not boring since instead of communication you are most likely planning out your next move. Since you are only allowed one move before another player makes their one move, the turns go quickly. I saw a review saying turns took forever and this says that they were probably playing ALL their moves for the round before the next player played ALL their moves for the round but that is NOT how this game is played. Each player should be taking one move and one move only before another player plays. When all players have exhausted their moves for the round the round is over. Again, you do not play all your moves for the round at once. It's round robin, excuse the pun. As you build on your strategy, you start getting the satisfaction of seeing your engine work for you and return more than you expected or predicted it would and this is satisfying. Seeing as each player is only playing one move at a time, you only have time to plan your next move before it's your turn again. It moves smoothly, builds out somewhat beautifully, and it does not require any interest in birds whatsoever to play. We found it loads of fun, even if it didn't involve as much interaction as some other games we love. I'm actually about to play it solo (against automa) in a moment! East enough to teach to an 11 year old and after 2 plays you will get the hang of the strategizing portion of it. My friend played the first game without knowing what was possible so she just went along and played and didn't love it the first time. When she saw how my engine worked for me she understood the strategy of building her own engine with more purpose (not just playing any card because it was in her hand) and she loved it the second time through. So buy it and thank me later.
