Wayland Chiles does sell the actual Manzano plant. You can get red, yellow or orange. Depending where you live the earliest shipment is in April.

Q: Is this an actual Rocoto Canario, or some other hybrid?

If you purchase from Wayland Chiles the seeds that will be shipped are Rocoto Canario and are not a hybrid.

Description

Wayland Chiles is a small family seed farm located in Florida. All of the seeds sold are grown in the USA. The Rocoto also sometimes called Manzano (mahn zah noh) originates in South America and is found growing on the Andean mountain slopes. It is among the oldest of domesticated chilies and has been cultivated for thousands of years. If protected from the frost this chili can live for over 15 years and can be trellised like a grape vine. This is the only species of chili that has black seeds. This offer includes seeds for the red rocoto.

Germinated well. So far so good

Its been too hot this summer so far to get any pods, but flowers are developing now that it's getting cooler. Ive enjoyed how unique its characteristics are and will definitely overwinter it

just 10 seeds?

the tiny package has barely 10 seeds, I was expecting a larger amount for the price.diving the seeds into the cost I have paid $0.75 cents for each seed.I wont recommend this seller.

Looks good, time will tell

Seeds arrived in timely fashion.Seller did respond to question so I view that as a positive.Won’t be germinating for a few more weeks, will give an update if seeds are duds.

did not grow well in my area, gets occasional coastal fog. probably not the best climate for them.

Beautifull fuzzy leaves

It took close to a month to germinate and it will need two seasons to produce but it is a beautiful plant that grows true to the description.

Patience and they will come!

I used the paper towel method to germinate and am over 2 weeks in (2/16 start, today is 3/3). I almost gave up before I found >75% have germinated. Not sure on fruit yet, but will update.

Great seeds and seller

Seeds arrived very quickly. They took a while to germinate (as is apparently the habit of Manzanos and their close relatives) but now that they've started they're doing beautifully. Couldn't be happier.
