This firmware is defective.
This version Amazon is selling had a defect in this firmware. It will not pass cat 6 SHIELDED cable for any reason. Other cables it’s works fine but not CAT 6 SHIELDED CABLE For what ever reason. I had to call Klein tools directly and they confirmed, that this tester had the defect. I had to pay to ship the device back to them for a replacement. Very inconvenient. We verified that cable was good with another high end tester. We ordered this one to have a backup on this project. Buyer beware.

Everything fails, only test two cable
I bought this crap Klein Tools VDV501-853 only work with two cables, after that everything fails, even a small cable that comes with a tester failed all. I try all 6 Test + Map, failed. Not sure bad tester or Chinese crap. Requesting for return

Paid for itself on its first job
This set was a life saver on its first outing. We had to build several CAT6 cables for a project and the test capabilities of this device paid themselves immediately. First, we were able to determine with ease if the cables were built right, and also identify on which cable we were with the included remotes. Also, having the capability to audio tone them out gave this design a better working piece of equipment. The included case has a nicely built, durable design to hold all the equipment and test cabling. All in all a great buy.

2 different results from same cable
With Self-Store Test+Map, cable would Pass; with Remote #2 through #6 cable test shows Split. I also re-terminated it and same result. After looking at the Manual closely, this isn't a fail. If Fail, the top line would shows "Fail Split". I adjust the Tester so it would read cable length more correctly. That didn't change result. Took the cable with me to work and test with Flue Cable IQ and it pass and showed everything terminated correctly. Klein Tools need to fix this inconsistent display. I supposed this is good enough for Home use.

Little overkill for what I need and pretty expensive, but has saved me a lot of heartache.
Tools like this are pretty spendy and honestly, I probably won't use all the features it has. But man it has saved me a lot of heartache while hard wiring my home. You'll kick yourself for not having one of these for sure.

Great diagnostic tool
We greatly appreciated this tool when running CAT8 cable from our main house to a large detached RV garage. The older testing devices kept giving an error due to the length of the run. We were primarily using female CAT8 punch down terminals and felt reassured once we had confirmed our wiring before speed testing. The wire length feature was also very nice and accurate. We made over 20 connections for this run of wiring, as our use of technology continues to expand with time. Now our pool controls, lighting, A/C and heating, locks, and many more devices are now all connected and running over very fast backbone. The individual location beacons were also great when confirming multiple runs in an area. I would highly recommend for any IT professional or amateur/DIY computer enthusiast who is running new computer network cables. This is a great tool to have available to test circuits and even patch cables.

Mostly disappointed in Amazon for this issue...
I just received my Klein Scout Pro 3 tester just in time for the job I am on this week. However, when I opened up the case this is what I saw, 5 remotes, fantastic, the only problem is that instead of #2-#6 I have #2-#5 and an additional #5. So I contacted Amazon and since they are the clearing house for the manufacturers/companies they should be able to rectify this, right? Not so, Amazons representative said that I either keep it as is or return for refund, not really an option since I will be using it two days from now. As for Amazon, this is a simple thing, you should have helped me get a return for the extra #5 and sent me a #6, period! Klein, this could very well be a one in a million problem, I love your products and will continue to purchase them, however, in the past several years I have noticed that manufacturers/companies/service organizations are really falling short on their QC/Customer Support (Amazon) and really hope that this is not something that is happening more often than I hope it isn't. Thank you Klein for making such great products.

Decent Tool, Terrible Documentation
The tool itself performs as advertised, though the interface is like something circa 1990. The manual, however, is a nightmare . Badly organized and illustrated, with unreadable ransom note typography - the sort of awful effort that makes you wonder about the future of the species.

Needed a much better cable tester to provide POE testing without going into crazy money territory as in thousands, and this fit the bill, although did seem a big price difference between standard and poe versions. Has really helped resolve network backbone installation issues quickly and was great help in running multiple cabled networks.

Works remarkably well. I tied and gave up doing this manually; with 14 leads and testing 2 ends at a time, there are C(14,2) = 91 possible combinations. With this tool, I simply plugged in 6 total test ends then just used the reader to test the remaining 8 wires and found out exactly what goes where (coax wires).

Works great very easy to test networks and good for testing POE switch which i suspected faulty port ,and the test confirmed

Works as expected and components are good quality. The Klein case and foam cut-outs hold parts firmly. I purchased the Probe Pro Tracing tool separately to add to the case. Not a big user but expect this to be with me for many years.

Device works as it should, but it came with a dead 9V battery. For a $300+ device, you’d think they could have included a Duracell or something decent. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning if you are hoping to use it right out of the box.
