Got the job done. Knew all along that the plastic components of the window regulator would be the problem. Much easier and cheaper to replace the plastic component, if that is your vehicle's issue. As my original part was broken it took a bit to figure out how to alight the part and install the corresponding original components. A link to a few photos or drawings would have been delightful.

Bad, Bad, Bad. Not shaped like original clip. Read review, look at pic.
Original clip is “V” shaped at the top (check pic). This one is not. This makes replacing this clip 1000 times more difficult. You should be able to place the dowel in the window first and then slide it down into the clip, snapping the window into place on the clip. 10 minutes fix. As there is no “V” in this clip to allow this, the window must be slid into the clip and THEN the dowel inserted. I had to modify this clip to allow the window drop down enough to line up with the hole. Then perform a feat that should only be attempted by a magician or a person with small, strong hands... Inserting the dowels (yes, there are two. Holding and locking) with window in place is extremely difficult. If I didn’t need this job finished for a trip the next day, I would have returned this item. Don’t buy this. Save yourself frustration and a couple hours work. Make sure to shop for one like the original with V shape on top.

Simple part, not so simple fix but quite possible to repair for the shade-tree mechanic
This is a cheap part. But it's important. My stock part broke on my 2000 Passat like half the other pieces of plastic on that car. I live in California's central San Joaquin Valley where it gets hot. Plastic gets brittle. So, paying somebody else to replace this regulator will cost. There's a lot of labor involved. Fortunately for myself I've done this before. The part is simple. Just plastic. But it's integral. If you have no clue about mechanics, pay somebody else to fix your window. If not, watch youtube. There are several very cool guys who show you every step. It will still take time. If you're like me, you will swear. Save your parts, too. Don't force anything. But it's way better to have a working window.

1/2 success rate
I replaced the regulator clips for rear left and right windows. Left worked fine, no problems. Regulator clip attached easily, the dowel fit snugly and the window fell into place easily and securely. The rear right regulator clip however was made from a different plastic, the dowel was too small and the slot into which the dowel slides in the regulator clip is ata virtually a right angle meaning the dowel will not fall into place. Total failure.

Didn't need this but glad I have one.
So the for those who are familiar with VW mechanical repair you all know that, like most German engineered equipment, having the right tool is a requirement. The service manual process of installing the rear window of Passat wagon states to install this lift component on the regulator assembly first. With the window in a fully up position, slowly lower it down and allow it to "snap" into the lift mechanism. While this may sound like a sure way to destroy the window and the lift, it works like a charm. Having a part like this on standby is definitely recommended. As plastic ages it becomes brittle and this component is one of the worst to suffer from this.

Very difficult to use.
Have to agree with review by Popeye. There is no bevel like in the OEM and at this stage not allowing the pin to "snap" into the clip. Take a close look at Popeye's picture and make sure one you purchase has this bevel.
