It works as it's supposed to
I almost didn’t buy this because of the bad reviews. But reading them, I see that as usual, these are a litany of complaints from people who don’t know what they’re doing. They say it’s supposed to be tool-free but they had to use tools. Satori claims tool-free adjustment, not tool-free installation. They whine that it got stuck in their steerer tube. Either they used the wrong insert or their steerer is too short or internally butted and they tried to pound it in. You need a steerer at least seven inches long or unbutted. If you don’t know what that means, drop those tools right now. They moan that their bike is useless now that they’ve removed the star nut and can’t revert to a regular stem. Any bike shop can install a new star nut for a few dollars in about five minutes. They claim the star nut is critical to hold a stem on. A star nut is just for headset preload, not for retention. That’s what the pinch bolts are for. They say that they can’t tighten the headset. It’s quite simple. You’re supposed to put on the lower collar but not tighten it. Install the main clamp on top, apply some weight and tighten the pinch bolt on that. At that point, you can tighten the lower collar and the mating conical surfaces will apply axial preload to the headset. But don’t just use the recommended torque value. Tighten only until you’ve removed any play. They probably tried to tighten the lower collar first, which is wrong. That won’t even tighten enough to act as a clamp, and it’s not intended to.They say it won’t stand up to rough off-road terrain. No serious mountain biker would use this as they wouldn’t want to raise the handlebars that high. It’s for casual cyclists on relatively smooth surfaces. They say there’s a bit of play at full extension. Probably used the wrong plastic insert.Honestly, these folks are a menace to themselves and any others on the roads and trails. If you’re not mechanically inclined, stop working on your bike! You’re going to cause a crash and hurt yourself and/or others. That said, the instructions are imprecise and incomplete. The English leaves a lot to be desired. I would have preferred a second pinch bolt to secure this adapter, but I guess that’s not really necessary as it’s secured on both the inside and the outside of the steerer. As long as you’re not doing three-foot drops or even bunny hops, it should be fine. I owned an Octagon stem adapter a long time ago, which this is modeled after. That was more expensive, but I actually prefer this to that one. This has a few more features and is slightly more user-friendly. Changing the plastic shim at the bottom to go into a smaller diameter steerer was a bear, though. Took a lot of prying to get the white one off. A smaller flange at the bottom would have held the shim just as well and made the process a lot easier. The black shim is split to allow installation, although it looks solid.

Not Real Sure About This.
I just installed this on my bike. I am not sure how solid the riser to steer tube is. It does not look like it will handle the terrain.

Not Sturdy
While it does raise the bars nicely it is difficult to get the stem tightened properly and the bars aligned straight. It's not for aggressive riding either. Moves when just riding over bumps and curves unless you tighten it so much that it won't telescope up and down like is advertised.

Deemed unsafe
This product is not safe. This is for bikes with star nuts. The star nut is holds ur handle bars down by pressure. When this adjustable handle bar holder is added, the star nut is taken out. There is no pressure holding the handle bars. A good enough bump and ur handle bars WILL move. This can eventually cuz a wreck. Though the idea is nice, I do not recommend this product.

Ingenius accessory, not for exuberant riding
I would not install this extender on a downhill bike or any bike that receives rough use, but my reservation is not due to any failure of the device, I simply don't have enough confidence that it is sturdy and dependable enough for that kind of use. HOWEVER - I absolutely love the concept, and how this works on a cruising or commuting bike. Installation requires a reasonable understanding of how threadless stems work and what preloading is - and, if you are raising the bars much, you may need to redo your brake and shifter cables. You have to pound out or pound down the star nut. Then you install this extender, which may require adjusting the number of spacers on the steering tube. The extender clamps on first, and then you tighten a special spacer that goes immediately below the extender. The extender and spacer have tapered portions that make them move apart, placing a preloading the headset bearings, taking over the function of the bolt in the star nut. While it would be good to have an allen key torque wrench for properly torquing the extender clamp and tapered spacer, this extender can be installed without one by someone who understands what they are doing. You just have to test the load you're putting on the headset bearings as you tighten it down. If you can handle all that, this extender does what it claims. It allows you to quickly adjust stem height and to quickly rotate the handlebars at a right angle to save some storage space. It works as advertised, and it is a delight to be able to raise and lower your bars so easily, let alone turning the bars sideways. I'm also adding some quick release pop-off pedals to the bike I put this on so I can store it in a very narrow space.

Don't buy
Didn't fit on my mountain bike, it got stuck in the frame and I couldn't get it out. Very shaky when installed properly doesn't seem safe at all. Waste of money for me and that kinda sucks, can't return it because its all scratched up. :( I thought it would be cool.

Nice, adjustable, steering riser for a mountain bike.
The product shipped quick and met my expectations. However, there are no instructions, and required me to pound out the Bike manufacturers internal star washer to install the new riser. Many people would no be comfortable doing what I had to do, to complete this install. 5 star product, but 3 stars for lack of instructions = 4 stars total.
