Feels Like Halo
Back to the creative roots started by Bungie, 343 finally looked to its source material and created a Halo that feels inspired by its original title, "Halo: Combat Evolved". VISUALS: -Striking visuals showcasing "Infinite" may have been referring to budget, as textures are out of this world. However still very apart of this world, is its setting, despite taking place on a space ring, the PNW that inspired the original Halo takes center focus and builds a familiar world that aids in credibility. AUDIO: -I'm so happy with this games sound design. As an audio tech, this game has incredible mixing and channel diversity. Absolutely worth playing with surround sound if you have the option. No compressed sounds here. Music is unfortunately forgettable. Despite having some very inspired throwback tracks, most of the music was forgotten soon after the credits rolled. GAMEPLAY: -Halo's first open world. Its great. A little formulaic, playing it very safe, it does a good job, Halos gameplay loop translates really well to open world. Combat is phenomenal, and the range you can engage targets/targets will engage you is mind blowing. Controls are responsive and the grappling hook is the perfect addiction to the franchises "guns, grenades and melee". The covenant are extremely fun to fight, grunts feel like grunts again, the unfun enemies of 4 and 5 are gone, and the "character" that Halo used to have feels alive again. STORY: -Very bland. The focus was on a new AI for the Master Chief. And its just bland. After the dropped ball, or balls, of 4 and 5, the devs clearly wanted to play it safe narrative wise to not piss off the fans anymore than they already have. It does its job though, I had fun, but it mainly just carried me to the next fun combat segment. One massive gripe in regards to gameplay. As of now, April 12, 2021, there is still no sign of co-op. As a Halo game, that is one of the greatest sins to commit, and its a shame we're still unable to play through the campaign with a friend. OVERALL: -An excellent Halo title. One that finally feels "Halo" again. And as a fan since the original, man I've missed this franchise.

It's better than 5
(Only reviewing Campaign) Halo Infinite is much better than Halo 5. It has a new "grapple shot" ability that lets you do Spiderman stuff to get to areas that would have been off limits in previous games. Many new weapons. You also can now get access to weapons, vehicles and Marines as you unlock bases. Also the various boss fights can be challenging. Open world lets you explore and choose missions. The graphics are stellar as is the sound. Skulls can be found but are not readily usable (you need to start a new game, end it then go back to the original to activate them). If you enjoy the Halo series you should have fun with this one once you get familiar with the equipment swapping. The story is an effort to fix the mess from 5's story. It's ok but not a full fix. Also be prepared to download nearly 90 gigs before being able to play.

Runs beautifully on my series x. Very fun game, even for a grandma like me. I love playing as Master Chief. I'm glad I picked this up to provide more Halo fun while I wait for new games to release.
