Game Gear Sega Portable Video Game System (Renewed)

I am so glad I could find old games or systems I used to have. This old Clumsy (no not really) handheld is nice to have. Just had to make sure the cartridge pins where lining up just right. and then boom! so smooth working and playing. I suggest you get yourself some recharge batteries for this one. I didn't have any dents or scratches on mine...

This console is a backup for the system with many titles significant to me. The 230$ price tag is a small price to pay to have a future replacement for my refurbished system and works perfectly.

I was excited to have a refurbished Sega Game Gear to replace my old one that I found in storage. The new refurbished one did not come with any power cord, so I was glad my old one did the trick. However the only upside to the refurbished one is that the screen stays white. None of my games worked. I put in new batteries, had it plugged into the power cord and still nothing. I tried several of my old game cartridges and none of them worked or changed the screen in any way. I'll keep looking and hoping someone has a working Game Gear to sell.

System arrived in full working order and cracking it open it looks like all of the capacitors have been replaced which is the most common cause of failure in these units even back in the 90s. There was flux left all over the board and there is signs of nasty battery leakage / corrosion on a spot beneath the battery compartment which wasn't fully cleaned. The sloppy condition of the main system board is the main reason I deducted 1 star. The average person wouldn't be comfortable cracking this thing open to check or do additional cleaning on their own. The corrosion especially would be problematic over time if not properly cleaned. The flux, depending on its composition could be problematic too over time. The original LCD is barely useable though, have to hold the unit at a good 135 degree angle away from me in order to be able to see well enough to play anything. They weren't stellar screens to begin with and I expected to mod this system though including a modern LCD kit, so no deductions there.

Mine works perfectly and is in good shape.

Bought this device last year hadn't been able to get a game to test it. Finally got one today and it doesn't power on. Do not buy these renewed consoles.
