Great for first timers.
excellent product and value, got this syma X5SW for my son (6 years old). came with a battery and screwdriver to assemble the blade guards and feet as well. ready to fly out of the box. The manual is very simple where you can figure out what needs to be done to fly asap. Here are the steps as simple as can be.1, after assembly (not hard to do at all.) turn on your remote, then turn on your Syma.2. press the left joystick all the way up then back down, you'll hear a beep and you are ready to fly.that's it.In the manual they explain MODE 1 and MODE 2, look at it and you will see what is easier for you.Other than that. Love it have had it for 3 days and cannot wait to get into more advanced models.

Excellent basic drone
We use this one now that the older X5C is harder to find. It holds up well to being chased (and sometimes caught) by dogs and is a brilliant little way to exercise my energetic pup. Everyone at the dog park wants to get one for their dogs! With no landing gear or camera, it gets easily 5-10 minutes on a battery, depending on the size battery you use.For a beginner, this one has no hover, so you will have to control throttle constantly. If you're more experienced, that's actually a really good thing, as you can swoop within a few cm of the ground without having to fight the hover controls.

Corroded motors - highly disappointed
Bought this for my son's 14th birthday, he has had less than one month and it won't fly! Gears started skipping and motors not functioning properly. We took off the shell and the motors showed signs of corrosion. He has had many RC products and is quite technical as well as very careful with his items. We were very disappointed in this product. At this price, it should last more than one month. :(

SYMA got it VERY right with the X5C and missed the mark with the X5SW.
I have and love the SYMA X5C and thought the X5SW would be a good choice for getting into using WiFi and FPV. I was wrong. The X5SW was not anything like the X5C in terms of design quality and flight quality. The X5SW would not trim out properly and only on rare occasions could I get the unit to hover in place (indoors out of any breeze). Fine tuning did not work. . . when it would move from a hover position (let's say, for discussion purposes, to the left) and a single push of the fine tune adjustment would be applied; it would move to the right instead of hover in place. This was the case no matter what direction was involved (front, back, left or right). The battery connection is cumbersome. Unlike the X5C where the battery plugs into a securely fastened battery cable connection and the battery compartment has a brace to hold the battery in place, the connector on the X5SW is a loose wire that is, at times, difficult to fish out of the battery compartment. The battery compartment on the X5SW is large and does not have anything to hold the battery in place like the X5C does. The design causes the battery to shift at times during flight and this causes battery weight distribution and therefore unpredictable flight characteristic changes. The battery(3.7V 500mAh Li-poly) is not sufficient to power this unit. This is the same battery that comes with the X5C and it works just fine on the X5C (average flight times on X5C = 8 min 32 secs.) The X5SW has larger motors than the X5C and when WiFi and the camera are drawing power battery life is spent very quickly. The flight times are advertised at "About 6-7 minutes" and the longest flight time I achieved (after 50 flights) was 4 minutes 27 seconds (Even with the camera disconnected).Dan

The quad copter arrived in very good time. Good little inexpensive learning unit
The quad copter arrived in very good time. Good little inexpensive learning unit. Has some issues with wind but that is to be expected with a drone it it's size.UPDATE: September 13, 2106 - What I thought were wind issues with the Syma X5sw seem to be turning out to be lack of response from the quad. If I move the pitch or roll control stick to it's stop position, the drone will fall out of the sky. Doesn't happen every time but often enough that the little drone is getting pretty beat up. Same thing happens if I move the yaw control all the way to it's stop position. It drops out of the sky. Now it is having binding issues. Sometimes it will bind with the transmitter. Sometimes it won't. I never know when the Syms is going to have an issue so it make it hard to enjoy flying it.

For the money, this is awesome!
This is a GREAT first drone. Parts are cheap and easy to obtain and repair. I've had this drone for about 2 years now and have replaced so many motors and blades I've lost track. I have 4 drones ranging in price from this $40.00 to $300.00. I ALWAYS come back to this one. If your looking for one to take pictures with, get something in the $80.00 to @100.00 range. For the price this drone is so much fun!I fly this almost daily! Providing no or little wind. This is the funnest thing ever to fly! I have a driveway, about 100 feet long. I have a BLAST flying it a fast as I can back and forth looping and diving. Make sure your in High speed on the controller. Make sure you have plenty of batteries! I picked up a six pack of batteries so I will slip out to the driveway after dinner or before bed and fly several or all of them at a time! Night flying is TOTALLY FUN!

Great batteries, sturdy drone, lasting memories
The most fun we’ve had since our drone journey started! This thing takes a crash and can keep flying (if you have the guards on)The battery last a solid 10 minutes and recharge about half an hour so we cycle through them pretty quick.Buy extra batteries if you want to have longer moments of fun and the best time to fly is light wind :)Would highly recommend this drone to anybody looking to pick up the hobby at a great value.

Survived 2 weeks in a tree
So I got this stuck up over 50 feet in a tree for over 2 weeks. It survived some hard rain multiple times, and finally fell down today. The quad suffered almost no damage, and turned right back on with a new battery. Can fly as perfect as it did brand new no problems. Pretty impressive considering the price. Also I want to mention overall this is a very smooth flying quad, easy to control and hover. The camera isn't good quality but it's a fun feature and for the price I have no complaints.
