Arko Shaving Soap Stick by Arko

This is a fantastic product. I only wish I had discovered it when I was young and would have saved myself a fortune on all the gel nonsense that is out there. One stick will last 3-6 months. Cost per shave is almost zero - brilliant performance, great trad barbershop smell. There are some basic things in a mans life that you just know you will use forever - start using this and be done with all that other nonsense. I will be using this for the rest of my days.

This is an excellent soap. Lather really well (I put it straight onto the face and then latered with a wet brush) and protects the skin really well for an excellent close shave. However, as many have said, the smell is quite powerful. My wife described it like a freshly cleaned holiday apartment, and it definitely does have notes of bathroom cleaner. It's not offensive, just a bit "much". I've read that the smell fades if you leave the stick open for a while,, so fingers crossed.

I purchased the product after reviewing online opinions on said product, mixed reviews about the smell and lathering properties but all in all this is a great shaving soap: lathers up well pleasant lemony smell, malleable so you can get it into a wooden shaving bowl, cannot beat the price either perfect for beginners or anyone else on a tight budget.

The smell is OK, was the only thing I was unsure about but was cheap enough to try without sampling it first. One bar lasted me many months but peeling the wrapper became tedious in the shower as the bar was used. But it lathered up fine and if I were to use a bar soap again I'd consider this again.

For anyone who takes pride in attaining the skill of mastering the Art of Shaving this is a must try. The creaminess of the shaving soap produced is beyond anything I have tried before. It has a luxurious feel to it, not bettered by many others often costing 3 x the price. Great to use, great feel, great smell and best of all, great shave.

Pretty good lather and slickness. Scent is quite an old fashioned smell but not unpleasant. Great value for money.

I have thick coarse stubble. My set up in the past was either proraso, col conk, or kiss my face. I decided to try this arko shave stick based on all the reviews and plus its so cheap. I use the main Merkur everyone has, I think its the 180 and I used a derby blade that had one shave under its belt already. I purposely didnt shave for about 4 days to get some nice stubble. I also didnt shower before this shave. I wanted to see how it works without the benefit of a hot shower with steam. I bought a plastic twist up container from west coast shaving for $1.75 and easily put the arko shave stick in there. This device is the icing on the cake, everyone should get this if you get an arko stick. Will make it so much easier to carry when traveling and no mess on your hands either. I wet my face and applied the stick directly to my face. I then took my badger hair brush, wet it and started rubbing it around. LATHER EXPLOSION. So much lather in fact, there was enough for 3 passes on the brush. I went to town and there was no nicks, cuts and no irritation afterwards. Plus, I can only imagine how long one stick will last if I shave 4 times a week. My guess is a few months at least. Also since I apply directly to my face, there is no bowl or scuttle to mess with and have to clean later. Less mess overall! The smell. Yes the other reviews are right, it smells like commercial soap. However, this stuff works so well and is so cheap, I could care less. Throw on some cologne or aftershave afterwards and problem solved. So long Proraso, Conk and all the others. We had fun while it lasted but I have moved on and my face and wallet will be better off for it. 10/18 UPDATE: My shaves are still great and the strong commercial soap smell has greatly subsided, now its just smells like a hint of lemon. So don't be put off by the smell, it goes away. 10/31 UPDATE: Been shaving with this minimum 5 times a week since it arrived. Its barely made a dent in the stick and I have so much lather per shave that I end up not using most of it and just washing it off the brush when I am done. I couldnt shave everyday with conk or proraso or kiss my face because of facial irritation. None with this at all. Plus this will end up lasting longer than the others and thats with me shaving almost everyday.

Everyone says Arko is the best but that its scent can be off-putting. After finally trying it I disagree, I think Arko is great and so is its scent. It's a very old school, almost nostalgic soapy scent, like freshly washed clothes drying in the sun. I'll be sure to keep some Arko in my kit from my now on.

Devo dire che questo sapone è stata una piacevolissima sorpresa. Lo sto usando da qualche settimana con risultati per me sorprendenti: pelle ben protetta, rasoio che scivola leggero come una piuma, rasatura profonda. Forse la profumazione non è stupefacente, ma non è neppure disprezzabile. Infine il dosaggio: monto la schiuma in viso e ne basta veramente uno strato leggerissimo per una schiuma consistente, a sufficienza per 2 passate ed oltre.
