Top Choice for Durability, Convenience, and Usefulness - Exercise Mats, Not Just Equipment Support/Floor Protection
I looked at a great number of options before selecting this mat (bought 2), and I couldn't be happier with my choice. One advantage for me is that this mat is larger than most offered in the "exercise" and "equipment" categories on most Web sites. The extra square-footage offered a better fit for the space available in my exercise area, which was important in protecting the carpet in a rented apartment. The two mats, together, provide an almost perfect fit, while offering plenty of space for my purpose--exercise, not equipment support. With regard to equipment support, however, I can say that the treadmill in my exercise area would be supported much better by one of these mats than it is by a discount store pad, which is what it now stands on. No comparison in quality between the mat being reviewed and the equipment pad in use now. The mat wins, hands down. For a small apartment, with limited open floor space, the fold-up feature of these mats is a real winner. The folded size of the mat (36Lx12Wx1.5H) makes it easy to store under a bed or other furniture, or even on a shelf in a closet, as the weight of each mat is quite manageable for overhead storage. The "folds lines" for each 12" section are somewhat thinner than the "mat" sections, which is what allows the sections to be folded, but the relative thinness in no way compromises the durability of the mat. I've used the mats for several months, folding and unfolding regularly, and there are no signs of wear or deterioration of either the folds or the section surfaces. The convenience of folding for storage, along with the compact, folded size, has made the mats the perfect choice for exercise where floor protection is necessary. I've had the interlocking squares, roll-out mats, yoga mats, etc., and none compare with the quality and durability of this fold-up mat. The mat's textured surface provides a bit of grip, even when exercising with socks on the feet. The surface is even more "grippy" when barefoot. The mat can be used with either side "up," so you don't have to wrestle with deciding how to unfold the mat for use. The folds keep the mat from lying completely flat, due to the "memory effect" of the material after being folded, but the effect isn't enough to cause any real problems when exercising. I've never tripped over a fold, for example, as the very slight protrusion isn't enough to cause tripping. Only mentioned here because the mat doesn't lie perfectly flat when unfolded after being stored, then used again for short duration before being folded again. I'm not sure whether the mat would flatten completely if left unfolded for a period of time, but I suspect the slightly raised areas would eventually flatten completely. I can imagine the mat might shift during exercise when placed over some surfaces, but I haven't experienced that problem when placed over fairly dense carpet. The "slipping" problem could be addressed easily with some strategically placed Velcro or tape or weights. For exercising, this mat (2x, in my case) has been an excellent choice: quality material, easy to move and to store, protects the carpet perfectly, provides some cushioning for exercise, and is inexpensive compared to a number of other options. Highly recommended, based on my experience.

sturdy and folds up out of the way perfectly
I was hesitant to purchase because of some of the reviews but I have to say its been 6 months of daily use and this is just what I was looking for. Its sturdy and folds up nicely when treadmill is up or down. I was VERY careful to just roll the treadmill straight on the mat (front to back) and not to move it side to side as some reviewers had trouble with tearing. It rolled right on with no issue and the treadmill is big and heavy. The mat protects the new carpet which is what I was looking for. The treadmill feet made divot marks in the old carpet so I wanted something to protect the new carpet. I found the large furniture moving discs at Home D and put them under the feet so that when the treadmill comes down, the feet land on the discs. perfect. No carpet divots and no marks from the mat on the light carpet either. The folding feature makes it easy to fold out of the way. Good purchase for what I needed it for and seems durable so far.

Perfect mat for NordicTrack Elliptical Elite 10.7
I got this to put under my NordicTrack Elite 10.7 elliptical trainer over a hardwood floor. The mat has 7 panels that unfolds flat and is around 4-5 mm thick all around. It has a nice seam around the edges, and was easy to roll the elliptical onto the mat without it slipping on the hardwood floor. The elliptical fits perfectly within the mat, with a few inches of space to spare at each end. The mat is sticky enough to not slip across the floor, yet doesn't stick to my bare feet when i walk on it. I've had the elliptical on it for almost a year with regular use and it has not moved at all. Being an especially heavy piece of equipment, the feet of the elliptical has left a permanent imprint on the mat as expected for something this heavy, yet there is no trace of any damage to the hardwood floor underneath. This mat was perfect for the job.

Exactly as expected
This mat differentiates itself a bit, in that it has the 1 ft. sectionals that allow you to fold it up to meet your own space requirements. At 7' x 3' (L x W), it is functional enough to cover most any space for one exercise equipment piece (though you should obviously measure for longer or larger-sized equipment pieces). I used this for a foldable, magnetic bike, which was intentionally more compact, as I don't like having huge amounts of space taken up by my exercise stuff. Obviously, once you do fold ups, you have to judge for yourself where the extra padding comes into play, so as not to offset your equipment's balance. Or, you could theoretically cut the mat, though I chose not to, in case I want to extend its use later. The mat is perfect for protecting your floor-- in my case, carpet-- catching sweat, separating the floor space to dedicate it for your exercise area. Could also be used as a general floor mat for exercise (e.g. yoga). You do need to stretch it and weigh it down appropriately to get the flat shape you want, due to the folds, but this was not a problem in my own usage. I set it up very quickly, was able to place the equipment on it, with minimal fuss. It is just a mat. Utility-wise, works as designed and expected.

High Quality and Convenient Mat
This is a pretty nice mat that I've used both on my carpet (giant area rug) and wood floors with no damage to the flooring. It's made of some type of heavy-duty material that's pretty durable feeling, and mildly squishy. It has never moved or slipped on me, and it's quite difficult sliding my equipment around the room on it even if I intentially want it to. There are two sides to this mat which confused me at first since I didn't know which side was supposed to be face down, or up. One side is smooth, and the other is bumpy and coarse. According to the photo which came with the packaging the coarse side with the logo is supposed to be upward (which makes sense as it causes traction for equipment) and the smooth side faces down. I've noticed the equipment I use with this mat ( Schwinn A40 Elliptical Trainer ) leaves indentations in the mat where the footings are, although this is not a bad thing. Also, since my Elliptical Trainer doesn't need the full length of the mat I fold one section (each section is about 1.5 feet) on both ends underneath to keep it contained to a smaller square. Because of the folding it causes a little pocket which I've tripped over once or twice, but this is more because of the tiny space I have it in, as well as my lack of balance and stride. If something ever happened to this mat, such as an epic chain saw accident or a burglars need for excellent exercise equipment mats, I would buy this again. For the price the quality seems exceptional, and it's convenient being able to fold it in the event I ever replace my Elliptical without having to worry if the new one will fit my mat.

Perfect for P90X
Looked at lots of mats to lay down on my hardwood floor for P90X3. This mat in particular has four great features that I feel should definitely earn it a 5-star rating for this purpose: 1. Great surface area - 84" x 36" as opposed to the 24" x 70" that's typical of other mats in this class. If you're planning to use it for a P90X program you'll definitely be glad for the extra surface area, especially for any jumping or lunging exercises. 2. Rugged build - before buying this mat I had an old standard yoga mat and the surface on this seems much, much more durable. Again, something you're going to want for the jumping, landing, agility moves. 3. Perforated fold-up design both convenient for storage and provides great distance markers all along the length of the mat. 4. Not so plush as other models - this one is a mixed bag. It's a bit less comfortable on the knees or tailbone than plusher-style yoga mats, but the greater firmness over most other mats makes it more suitable for balance exercises, and again I think is part of the tradeoff for the durability you'll want. Having purchased this mat and used it a bit for P90X, I'm very pleased with the choice. I'm going to combine it with a thick, plush-style 24x70 yoga mat that I'll reposition on the fly as needed for a bit more cushion when I need it so that I can get the best of both!

Perfect mat for my needs (carpet, treadmill, renter)
I rent, I have zero control over my flooring, and it's all carpet. I wanted a treadmill and I have high-er pile carpet, so I needed a mat. The treadmill I got was easily moveable, so I needed a mat that would be just as versatile. This baby was perfect -- longer than I needed it to be, unfolded and laid flat right away, folds back up like a breeze. Best of all--NO disgusting plastic or rubbery off-gas smell unlike most other mats I've been around. Even after leaving my treadmill on it for several months, the grooves quickly popped back into shape and you'd never know the treadmill had been on it at all. Would absolutely buy from this brand again.

Good mat for placement under treadmill
I bought this mat for use under our new treadmill in the garage. The floor was concrete so I wanted a mat to reduce vibration when running. This product works well, but is fairly stiff. Despite being on the floor for a couple months now, it's still not lying flat in the folds (similar to the way it looks in the picture). I find myself trying to pull it flat every once in a while, but it seems that it will always have that recently folded look. For me this really isn't much of an issue as the treadmill only contacts the mat at four points, so as long as these areas are flat under the feet, it's serving the purpose I needed it to. If using the mat for something like yoga, or stretching, I would look for something a little thicker and pliable. Overall, for the price, I am happy with the purchase.
