Intex Excursion 4-Person Inflatable Fishing Boat River Raft Set with Oars

This is one of the best recreation purchases I've ever made, and I've made quite a few. I live in South Florida where there are no shortages of lakes, canals and various other waterways, so a boat like this is quite versatile. With its 36-pound thrust trolling motor it can cruise all day in silence (at a surprisingly nice speed). The boat's construction is sturdy and it has three separate air chambers, meaning it's virtually impossible to sink by misfortune. The cushions are comfortable and secure, but I'm not a big fan of soft decking, which makes moving around the boat feel like walking on a waterbed, so I cut out a piece of 1/2" plywood the shape of the deck, coated it well on all sides with marine paint (to protect the wood) and carpeted the upper side with outdoor carpeting. It works great! I carry the plywood floor on my car's roof rack and tie it down with bungees. On a typical day's outing I simply toss the boat's carrying bag (which also holds both the hand and electric air pumps, not to mention two Coast Guard approved life vests) in my car's trunk, along with the trolling motor and motor mount (which I modified to hold the battery, night lighting and a 12-volt power source for iPods, phones and whatever), I stop at a deli on the way to the water and get sandwiches, snacks wine and/or beer and ice for the cooler, and we're ready to boat! I back my car down to the lake or canal (a ramp's handy but not necessary), unload the boat, motor and floor and inflate the boat with the electric pump, which plugs into the car's lighter. Inflation takes maybe twelve minutes, assembling the oars another two or three minutes. They stay clipped to the boat's sides until needed, which is rarely. I insert the floor, set the motor & mount in the boat (along with whatever necessities we may have brought) then slide the boat into the water. My passenger boards and I tie off the boat to whatever's handy then move the car to a proper parking spot. All of this takes less than a half hour. Once in the boat, I attach the motor mount and motor and we're off! From here on it's just pure fun and lounging around, listening to classic rock and soaking in the rays. Whenever I take a passenger out for the first time, she's always amazed at how relaxing this type of boating can be. I've owned boats of all sorts but pound for pound this simple little inflatable is worth its weight in gold. I recommend never boating drunk or otherwise impaired, always bring a life vest for each passenger and provide for some kind of night lighting, should the unexpected occur and you end up boating after dark. I also recommend an anchor, since inflatable boats drift easily in the wind. I use a 3.5-pound fold-up type anchor with 50 feet of 3/8" nylon rope, which takes up little space but works well (and also fits neatly in the boat's storage bag). Well, that's about all you need to know. I promise you'll never find this much fun and convenience in a boat for less money, and you won't need a garage or trailer to transport & store it. What could be better? Okay, I admit I've been thinking about installing a matching blue fold-down Bimini top (available here on Amazon), but that would just be icing on the cake.

I never leave a review but I felt obligated after what I just went through. I'll try to keep this as short as I can. All the mistakes in this story are mine, the boat got me out of it... Friends talked me into "floating the river" for 5 days. No one mentioned the rapids or 4 foot waterfall. I showed up at the camp with it still in the box. There were rocks everywhere. I beat the crap out of this thing. It was the only way through. My main concern was it getting punctured but I was wedged in rocks in the chutes and rammed by kayaks repeatedly and, after you get to that point where you're too tired to be careful and you'll just deal with it if it pops you just have to get through it, it started getting better. By the end of it (I did it again the next day) I knew it wasn't going to pop. And that's when it started getting fun because you can't avoid them. I've never rowed with oars before but it wasn't hard to figure out fast under pressure. It took 6 hours to get down the section of river on the first day. On fast stuff it was better to stow one paddle and use the other to steer and push off rocks. The paddles didn't break and same deal I had to push and crank with them like my life depended on it. During the slow sections I'd row anywhere I wanted and it was awesome. I had 2 ppl with 30 pound cooler during slow seconds (or I was towing a tube) and just me and the cooler during rough stuff. Second day I went down the little waterfall standing up. I didn't even know you could put a trolling motor on it. The pump was awesome. First night after the river we carried it to a lake with battery lights around the sides and drank champagne with someone under moonlight and it was one of the coolest things ever just going anywhere you want with ease. I've had it out of the box for 5 days but I'll ride or die with this boat forever. P.S. ...I don't want to give away my vacation spot but Google rapids in southeast Oklahoma and look for the rocks......I didn't even know they had freakin rapids in Oklahoma. I hadn't had a vacation in 6 years. I was just trying to float a lazy river and drink beer. Thanks to the boat it still ended up being a really great time.

What a great product & helpful company. This boat is made very well and the size is bigger than we thought. Its pretty easy to assemble, maybe a little more work to disassemble but it is worth the work. We also needed something easier for storage since we are in process of buying a home. This company was easy to work with & quick in responses for help. We will be referring our family & friends to buy. Our home town is all about fishing and lakes.

Bought this last summer and I love it!!! Me and my wife take it to the lake most weekends to fish or just for the exercise, and it's held up very well. The one downside is the bag that holds it ripped after only a few uses even with me being somewhat careful. A bigger bag would've held up better, but that's not a huge issue for us since we ended up just making our own. I would recommend spending a bit more on the bigger model as it's better to have more space, and not need it rather than less space just to wish you had more. I didn't upgrade and sometimes I wish I had. The boat fits two people very comfortably and it still does okay with four. I can't imagine trying to get five adults on here, but if you have kids you could probably fit five(this also goes back to my point about upgrading to the bigger model). Also you should know that because of the boats size you may need a permit. I live in Oregon and had to get one, but it was affordable and easy to find. Overall great way to spend your money if you are the type of person whos looking for their first boat. It's much cheaper and requires far less maintenance than bigger boats, but still gets the job done and I in no way regret my purchase. The day it breaks I will gladly order another one(in a bigger size of course)

This boat was perfect and so much fun! We look it out two different camping trips and it worked perfectly. We were finally able to venture out onto a lake we had been camping at for years and had always wondered what the rest of the place looked like. Lots of fun. We fit two heavier adults and a 7 year old with us and there was plenty of room. The boat didn't sag down where we sat like most rafts do, this one was very sturdy. The only complaint I have is that three times the oars came undone halfway cross the lake and we were almost stranded. Luckily my husband was fast enough to dive in and catch them before they sank too far. (Lake is freezing cold and about 60 feet deep or more where we were.) The manual pump worked exceptionally well. Since we had a battery operated one, we used that to fill up about halfway, then we used the manual since it had a higher output. Would definitely purchase again. I was raised around boats, but having just started out with my husband, we have not yet purchased an actual boat. We figured this would be a great intro being that you can add a trolling motor. We will probably do that next summer, just in case we lose an oar again and aren't able to catch it quickly enough! Bottom line - TONS of fun!

This is a really nice boat. We ordered it specifically for floating down the river. We have only taken it out a couple times, so I can't truly speak for it's lasting durability yet, but it really feels like quality material that won't be tearing any time soon. Now, this boat is listed as a 4 person boat. As some have previously mentioned, this boat is much more comfortable for only two people, especially for two big men with a cooler. But with us being two average sized females, we were extremely comfortable sitting in this boat for hours, and could have easily fit one or even two more average sized people in it fairly comfortably. My favorite part about this boat is the seats. They are very comfortable, and the fact that they can either be attached to the boat itself, or removed all together is a huge plus. The little pouch it comes with is also awesome, although it would have been cool if it was a dry bag. We haven't had a problem with any water getting into the pouch yet, though. Us being two average sized females, we had no problem loading the boat up with all of our stuff, and carrying it a quarter mile down to the water. iT is slightly heavy, but once inflated we found it very easy to transport. Once in the water it was pretty easy to steer. The paddle holders are very convenient. Rowing takes a bit of practice but we got it down pretty quickly. The air pump that it comes with is nice for emergencies, but would take quite a while to fill up the whole boat. We have one of those air pumps that you hook up to your car battery and inflated this boat in under 5 minutes. The air-only-in valves make it very easy to inflate. We also love the travel case it comes with. It's surprising that this huge boat can pack down into it, and it's absolutely wonderful for storage. Overall you really get what you pay for with this boat. It's not just some cheap inflatable, but instead a really nice river raft that is very high quality in my opinion.

I’ve taken the Excursion 4 out about 6 times now, mostly for river fishing and lake floats. Overall, it’s a solid "good for what it is" purchase. If you want to get on the water without spending $1,000+ on a hardshell boat or a high-end inflatable, this gets the job done. Pros: • Value: You really can't beat the price for a boat that fits a couple of people and some gear. • Portability: Easy to throw in the trunk and go. Setup takes about 15 minutes with a decent pump. • Functional: The rod holders and oar locks work well enough for casual fishing. Cons (The "Why it’s 3 Stars" part): • Durability: The "puncture resistant" label is a bit of a stretch. I’ve already had to apply several patches. If you even graze a sharp rock or a submerged branch, you’re likely going to get a hole. • Thin Material: The PVC is fine for open water, but it’s definitely not "heavy duty." You have to be extremely careful when launching or beaching the raft. I highly recommend carrying a permanent patch kit (not just the stickers it comes with) at all times. • Handling: It catches the wind easily and can be a workout to row against a current. Final Verdict: It’s a great "starter" raft. Treat it like a fragile piece of equipment rather than a rugged boat, and you’ll enjoy it. Just stay away from the rocks and keep your patch kit handy!

We 2 adults and an 6 & 8 year old. Total novices used this for the first time this weekend in a lake. Easy to ready easy to carry and easy to use very stable on water. Lots of people said how good it looked. A really good size and easy to get back into the back After deflation
