Ridgid 37825 Pipe Die, Pack of 4

The price of name-brand products is always higher than the knockoff ones, and these follow that rule. However, since I needed them to complete a set of Ridgid pipe dies, I decided to bite the bullet and go for them. They cut like expected, making a factory quality thread, so no complaints on performance, and they should last many years just like the prior ones did.

These teeth fit perfectly in my 50 yr old Rigid pipe die. Huge savings over buying a completely new die.

I am using a Ridgid 30-A pipe thread cutting tool. After breaking a die, I eagerly awaited these replacements. they fit in fine and looked similar, but upon reinstallation, it appeared as though they were a little close together for a 1/2" pipe to fit in there. The notches are on the cap to hold them in the correct position so I went on to try to cut threads on a pipe. After about 20 minutes of attempted cutting, I wasn't sure what was going on as the dies were cutting a straight taper on the pipe, not grabbing to cut threads. I pulled one out and compared it to an old one. It seemed ever so slightly different and I started to wonder if I received the wrong part. All numbers on the packaging and tool matched up so I reinstalled and tried again. Same result. Upon my next time pulling a die out to compare, I began to notice that the notch (which i originally though was shifted toward the outside on the new dies) was larger than on the old dies. I reinstalled the new dies again but left the screws loose, pushed the dies out as far as they would go, and started to turn the tool. Within 1/2 of a turn it grabbed and starting cutting threads. I snugged up the screws on the cap and continued until I had some beautiful looking threads. Summary: they may need a little fine tuning as far as placement when installing.
