Brentwood MPI-70 Clothes Iron

This iron has a nice vintage feel that reminds me of my grandma’s, and it works wonderfully. Heats well, smooth glide, and gets the job done.

This is a true steam iron!! It doesn't turn off every 30 seconds when I'm ironing or hemming my pants with Stitch Witchery! I give this iron a 10 out of 10!

Worked fine until yesterday when the cord inside the protective metal sheath started smoking & sparking. The steam reservoir outlet ring fell off 2 days ago, haven't used the steam yet, but no big deal. Black & Decker has a nearly identical model the F67E. Brentwood is probably a Black & Decker product under another name. Had problems in the last couple months with irons, this was the 3rd iron I've bought since early May. Bought a Black & Decker from Walmart, stopped working the next day. Sunbeam stopped working the next day. Beginning to suspect they're counterfeit products since they're name brand and stopped working so soon.

I was disappointed that I had to return this iron. I filled the water reservoir 1/2 way. It kept spitting water out on to the items I was ironing. Does anyone have recommendations as I still need to purchase an iron?

After extensive searching (and I am still looking), this is the ONLY iron I can find WITHOUT the horrible auto-shutoff feature on all other irons. Auto shutoff has a mind of its own, never works according to the iron manufacturer's specs, shuts off while the iron is moving, shuts off after a few seconds, etc. If you sew or need to iron for long periods of time, you know how frustrating the auto shutoff can be. Unlike the folks who had bad reviews for this iron, I do not find any problem with the smooth ironing; however, spray starch will stick to this, like all other irons I have used. Also, all iron manufacturers are recommending using tap water. I can't figure out why because most tap water has minerals present that will clog the iron and eventually the iron will spit that brown stuff out on whatever you are pressing. For that reason, I still use distilled water. Let the iron continue to heat for a few seconds after you fill it. If it is still leaking at the bottom you probably do have a defective iron. This iron is not perfect by any means -- it is not heavy if that's what you want, but I prefer a lighter iron, since I often spend hours at a time ironing. The metal ring through which you pour the water came loose on mine, but I tapped it back on, and it is still holding. For that and the fact that it does not have a burst of steam feature, which would be nice, I give it four stars. For my purposes, this beats all to heck having to deal with auto shutoff!

This iron is an "old fashioned" iron that really works. It is much better that the new "plastic" irons that are "new and improved". I would recommend this for anyone who is a serious presser.
