Really, Really Nice!
I used an Echo 14inch gas saw for 40 years so when it finally gave it up last year I needed to replace it. I've read a lot about battery-operated vs gas and for my needs (an acre with surrounding forest where I do modest trimming and some tree felling) a battery-operated version seemed fine. More research led me to this EGO. I wanted the 5amp battery for more power and longer cutting. I haven't had a chance to seriously test battery life, but I have used the saw enough to really, really like it. On power, yes, it might have less power than a gas saw, but for my needs this has plenty of power. I love the significantly lower noise, that it shuts off whenever you’re not cutting, that you don’t have to keep gas around, mix and add it. Basically, I like everything about a battery-power saw, and this EGO seems like a winner. It’s hard to argue with 80% 5-star ratings and only 4% 1-star (of over 450 ratings). The owner’s manual says to operate at full speed, probably because this helps prevent kickback, but electric motors operate a full torque at even low RPMs. So, where you used to rev the gas engine to full rotational rate (and, hence full power) before you start the cut, you don’t need to do that with an electric. You can wait to go full-on until the saw has touched the wood. This seems to me much safer. For all you hard-line, battery-powered can't measure up to gas die-hards out there, just do it. Unless you need to cut down a forest, you won't regret going green. Just pick a saw with plenty of battery power, like the 5amp version of this EGO. An all around great switch to battery-operated and an excellent choice in EGO.

Who needs gas? (For a chainsaw)....
This is a great chainsaw. Period. I really don't have to say much more, but I will. Here are the pro's. 1. Built well 2. Lightweight 3. Powerful enough for most work 4. Great battery life (much more than I expected..I cut heavy honeysuckle scrub up to about 4-6" diameter for about 4-5 hours until the ONE battery gave up the ghost.) 5. Fast battery charging. Easy to see / understand batter charge LED. 6. Battery holds charge a long time when not in use. 7. Safety hand guard works well as a secondary lockout. 8. Good lubrication oil filler 9. Chain tension adjustment really easy. 10. No "pull to start" arm whiplash. Just pull the trigger....and cut. 11. It's QUIET! 12. You won't need to drain the gas, etc. for longer storage. Cons.... 1. Chain stretches when new. Simple. It happens with all chainsaws, and in this case, it's far easier to adjust the tension than many other saws. (This really isn't about this saw, but ALL chainsaws in general.) 2. Maybe not powerful as gas....but that's ok for most uses around the home. 3. Batteries will run out of juice and need to be recharged. Gas saws...just fill it up. Not so easy for battery if you don't have the time or a plug for the charger. (Maybe get 2 or more batteries....) 4. It doesn't have the Vrooooooom of a typical gas chainsaw...if you are into that sort of thing. Overall...if you are not a lumberjack, just a "do it yourself" homeowner that needs to cut stuff periodically, this is the way to go. If you think you will need a bit more....just get a second battery.

Excellent product
I’ve used this across my property to cut branches up to 8” diameter. It works great. Easy maintenance and reliable.

Supposed to be the best value
I love going to the YouTube Vlog Project Farm for product comparisons. This was not the best saw, but the best value. So I got it to go up the mountain and cut down trees without all the gasoline, oil, and tools. My trees are mid-sized 6" to 24". My $420 Stihl Woodboss locked up after 3 years. My Oregon 18" plug-in is a great saw. Wonderful close to the house. I thought a battery saw would work well enough. I have felled several trees with it now. All pine or cedar. I haven't tried hardwoods yet. I cut down two dead pine trees on the way up yesterday, then a 17" live cedar. I limbed and bucked the cedar. All that was done on one charge and an oil fill. Over an hour, maybe an hour and a half. Charging from empty took 90 minutes. On the 4th cutting trip I noticed the saw started stopping during cuts. The battery still had plenty of charge. I would stop for a few seconds and it would start back up. It does not cut like a Stihl, but pretty good. For cutting around the property it is fine. And it starts first time everytime, hot or cold with no expesive trips to the power equipment shop. I find it useful around the property. On a farm clearing a field, or in commercial construction, no way. I like dragging logs near the house where I can take the Oregon CS1500 and cut logs to woodstove size. It cuts faster, can go on for hours, cost $105 on Amazon, and is self sharpening (all be it a bit of a chain burner). The Stihl Woodboss is a beast, a $420 beast, that is hard to start in winter, goes through blade sharpenings, needs a bunch of equipment in the field, and barely out lived the warranty. If you can live with the limitations described the EGO is good buy. The pictures show the 17" cedar, the limbed trunk, and the EGO CS1604 next to the Oregon CS1500 both bought on Amazon. FYI you can pick up used Woodbosses on Ebay for ~$250 if you really need a gasoline chainsaw. I just don't bieve I got my value buying a new one

It cuts wood!!! It’s cordless!!! It’s electric!!!
I am becoming a fan of this brand. I already had the mower, so I figured I would try the chainsaw, since it looked promising. I used it for cleanup work around the yard, where we had a bunch of brush and a couple trees to remove. It worked great. I am sure it does not equate to the best gas-powered saws, but it definitely met my purposes. I also like that it is quite a bit quieter than a gas saw. The size was a good balance between ease of use and functionality—no problems cutting through 12” thick wood. The chain stays on pretty well, unless you hit a chain link fence, and it is easy to replace.

Surpassed All Expectations!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Powerful Performance in a Cordless Package! I recently purchased the EGO Power+ CS1604 16-Inch 56-Volt Cordless Chainsaw, and I can confidently say this tool deserves every bit of the hype. EGO has done an impressive job of delivering a battery-powered chainsaw that performs like a gas chainsaw without the hassle, fumes, and noise! What Stands Out 1. Power and Precision The 56-volt battery packs a punch! I was pleasantly surprised at how easily this chainsaw handled medium-sized trees and thicker branches. The 16-inch bar is the ideal size for both larger tree limbs and smaller yard cleanup. Whether you're trimming trees, cutting logs, or dealing with post-storm debris, this saw has the muscle to get through it without the fuss of fuel and oil. 2. Impressive Battery Life and Charging The included 5.0Ah battery is robust and provides about 60 minutes of runtime under regular use, which is enough to complete most yard projects. EGO's fast charger is excellent, getting the battery back to full charge within 40 minutes, which minimizes downtime. This is perfect if you’re tackling a larger project that might require multiple charging cycles. Plus, the battery is compatible with other EGO tools, which is a big plus if you’re already in their ecosystem. 3. User-Friendly and Well-Balanced The design is lightweight yet durable, and the ergonomics make it comfortable to handle even during extended use. At around 12 pounds, it’s heavy enough to feel substantial but light enough to prevent arm fatigue. EGO’s attention to balance helps keep the saw steady, which makes it easier to get straight, accurate cuts. The tool-free tension adjustment is also a convenient feature, allowing for quick and easy chain adjustments while on the job. 4. Quiet Operation Wow! Compared to a traditional gas chainsaw, this EGO model is exceptionally quiet. It’s still powerful, but you can use it early in the morning or late in the day without annoying your neighbors—or risking hearing damage from the excessive noise gas models can produce. It’s also easier to start; no pulling cords or priming required—just push a button, and you're ready to go. A Few Drawbacks to Note Initial Cost: While the price may seem a bit high compared to some gas models, I find the ease of use, the lack of maintenance, and the overall performance justify the investment. Battery Runtime for Larger Jobs: If you have extensive cutting to do, you may need a second battery, which I had, and ending up needing for the job I had. The included 5.0Ah battery works well for most standard tasks, but larger, continuous jobs will drain it faster. Final Verdict The EGO Power+ CS1604 is a game-changer for homeowners who need a powerful yet quiet and eco-friendly chainsaw. It’s efficient, easy to use, and incredibly convenient for both beginners and seasoned users alike. With its cordless freedom, reliable power, and fast recharge time, this chainsaw is a solid addition to any home tool arsenal. Highly recommend for those looking to skip the gas chainsaw hassle but still get the same performance! Would I buy it again? Absolutely. It’s a top-notch tool that makes yard work feel less like work.

100% impressive
I used this saw for three days cleaning up my mother overgrown property. I had a lot of 2-4 inch sumac saplings, and about seven 5-10 inch birch trees to cut down and cut up for removal. The first day I only worked for three hours using my half charged 2.5 ah battery. It lasted about two hours and I put on the full charge 5 ah battery and worked another hour. The following day I kept the 5ah on with out giving it any charge. That battery with no exaggeration last from 8 am till about 3:30, when I had to stop to get cleaned up. The battery was still reading one bar of charge left. I did all of the heavy cutting this day. The saw works great, it has a lot of torque to tear through the wood and doesn’t seem to lack any power. I did pop the chain off three times before I realized how to properly use the tensioner, and I know my inexperience with the saw is what caused the pinched. It did seem to use a good amount of bar oil. I added an ounce or two at the start of each day. I don’t know if that’s a lot, but over the three days it used about a 1/4 quarter. Overall I’m really impressed with the saw and can’t say enough. It’s perfect for me since I don’t need a chain saw very often so I don’t have to worry draining gas, or getting carbs rebuilt.

No regrets.
We already have the EGO platform, and after reading reviews decided to go with the 16" for is mid- size balance between weight and size. Spent two days burning brush from winter storms. First time operating a battery chain saw. I LOVE the fact you don't have to "crank" the saw for just a few cuts here and there. Didn't do any serious dropping of trees, although did cut through some 6" diameter stuff. The 5.0amp battery lasted about as long a tank of fuel on a small saw. Of course with a new chain, it cut great. A few thoughts after two days of use: 1) Will I keep my Stihl gas saw? Yes, for big jobs. I can see the Stihl getting used much less though. 2) Does it cut as good as my gas Stihl? Hard to say yet, because I didn't fell any trees. 3) Convenience - OMG, great. Ideal saw to throw in back of the UTV for trimming up hunting lanes, cutting fence posts, limbing, and quick jobs. No searching for non-ethanol fuel ( which is all I use in my small engines). 4) Noise - Much less noisy than a gas saw. I found myself waiting for the high pitch whine of gas motor that wasn't there. 5) The "tool only" price was only $70.00 less than one with 5.0 battery and charger/ Although I didn't need another charger, I picked up a new 5.0 battery for only $70.
