Very handy tool.
We grow many of our own vegetables in our garden, and one of our favorites is green beans. I blanch and freeze them at the end of the season. In addition to packaging them whole and cut, one of my favorites is french cut. Before finding the Norpro French Bean Slicer, I had been cutting each bean by hand. It wasn't difficult to cut the beans with a knife, but after a while, it does get tiresome. I happened to come across this tool on a web site showing how to French cut beans, and then found it on Amazon. So I decided to give it a try. You wouldn't think something like this would save much time, but it really does. It also eliminates the chance of cutting yourself when slicing the beans with a knife. I wish I had found this handy tool a long time ago. UPDATE 08/10/22: I bought the French cut bean cutter 12 years ago, and it still works fine. I French cut a couple pounds of bean today, and it still works well. I have noticed there are a lot of poor reviews lately on this cutter, but I can't say whether it is the cutter or the user that has the problem. Since I have been using this cutter for so long, I decided to offer a few tips on how to use it. 1) If your beans are not fresh, or at all limp, this cutter won't work well on them. Cutting fresh, crisp beans is important. 2) To cut each bean, put the wider end into the cutter and push it through gradually until you have most of the cut bean hanging out the other end of the cutter. Then take hold of the cut part of the bean and pull the rest through. 3) The best beans to cut are younger beans that are not tough and the beans inside are barely showing through the pods. 4) If you are working with older beans, push the larger end of the bean through gradually until you can grab the cut part on the other side to pull the rest of the bean through. If your beans are limp or overly developed, it will be difficult to cut them with this cutter. If your beans are limp, it sometimes help to put them in a baggie overnight to stiffen them. I hope this review was helpful for you.

Good for the purpose
This is the second one I've purchased and even though it only lasts a little over a year I love the ease of use and the cost makes it affordable.

Game Changer
This small little gadget has saved me countless hours of hand slicing beans. Yes, I mean hours. We would cut 8 to 10 lbs at a time. From the time I could sit at a table and hold a knife, I have been sitting with my large Filipino family and French cut green beans for my momโs huge special holiday celebrations.. I saw this gadget and thought I would give it a try. I am glad I did. It was the perfect size for my small hand, very easy to use , and extremely affordable. Iโm definitely giving it a 10 out if 10!

Useable, but not great
Useable, but not great. Iโve had 2 before this one that worked great! The first one was my momโs from the 1980โs. The last one got lost when moving. This one sometimes cuts off the strings but sometimes doesnโt. And the slices are unevenโฆvery large slices and then paper thin slices. The good ones Iโve had before cut evenly, with small slices (not paper thin, though.) I must say, I bought a much worse, cheaper one from Amazon. It was so cheap that the metal broke almost immediately after I bought it! This one, isnโt so cheaply constructed; itโs useable. But I still want to find a better one than this, which cuts the strings and cuts even slices.

Works great
This is a nice tool for the kitchen. I live in rural America and green beans are part of our garden. Take your time to learn to use it. Sounds crazy but once you "get it" works great.

Norpro White French Bean Slicer
Received the slicer in good time from Amazon. We purchased a slimilar slicer some years back that looked this one but after many years of good use the blades became dual and you can not sharpen them so needed to replace it. Right now our garden was producing large quantities of green beans and my wife likes to can them for future use and meals. We like to french slice them prior to canning so like to take the extra time and effort to slice and stuff them before doing the canning process for storage. I had just picked two large 5 gal pails of nice string beans and the new slicer arrived just in time so as soon as I took out of the package started to french slice the beans..........WRONG! When I attempted to run the first couple beans throught this Norpro slicer it was very very difficult to push the bean through and the beans kept jamming up making a unclean cut and had to dig out the mashed beans left it between the dual cutting blades. My wife attempted to try her luck as well and ended up just as frustrated as I was. Bottem line this slicer was WAY over rated and is a wasted piece of junk! I contacted Amazon and requested a refund of which they approved and allowed us to return it post paided. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANY ONE!

Convenient Bean Slicer
Works well for snipping the ends. Works well for removing strings on the side of the bean. Then french slices the beans. Works quickly. Very sharp. Only way to french slice scarlet runner beans.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN A MY LIFE..?
Small, compact and fits easily into my kitchen gadget drawer. It took about a 3 minute learning curve to get the hang of it. Kentucky Wonders were on sale pre-Thanksgiving and I stocked up! I managed to french about 8# of green beans while watching Law & Order: SVU on Amazon Prime. We ate 2# for a test run pre-Thanksgiving. We've gone through another 3# at Thanksgiving and have 3# in the freezer for future consumption. P.S. I frenched and blanched another 4# of green beans on black Friday as well as blanched and froze 4# of whole beans. I โค๏ธ โค๏ธ โค๏ธ this tool!!!
