Gonzo 5001 Dead-End Mole & Gopher Trap

This little trap Works, IF, you know how to use it. I had paid my pest control guy 600.00 bucks to get rid of gophers that were tearing up my landscaping. After two months with no results, I did some research and found this trap online. I bought it, found a fairly new gopher hole, and placed the trap according to the instructions. It took me four days to catch a gopher. So, two months, pest control company 0, four days homeowner 1. This trap is very easy to use. 1. find a gopher hole. 2. Dig out around the gopher hole so that there is a slight descending trail leading down to the hole. 3. Set the trap by pushing the arm down and setting the trigger mechanism. 4. Set the trap at the mouth of the hole, and cover everything except the trapping mechanism with dirt. Covering the trap with dirt (except the mechanics on top) is important because the idea is that they feel like they are still underground, until it is too late. The pest control company I was using, was using another type of trap that required poking holes in the ground around a gopher hole and then driving a pick through the ground to create another hole that would be used to put their trap in. After two months of that, my yard was looking like Swiss Cheese. To conclude. The trap was made out high quality plastic and metal. It was super sturdy and well made. The value compared to the what the pest guy charges is unbelievable. The functionality was spot on compared the ones that the company used. The Catchability was 4 days compared to two months + In closing. I really like this trap. When you are done, you have the one hole that the gopher made to deal with, not a hundred holes that were a product of a bunch of failed attempts.

This trap works! I could not get the dead gopher out of 5e trap so had to throw the entire thing away. Called the company and they mailed me a new one! Who gives service like that anymore? Buy it!

Don't do it unless you have a master gopher catcher in the house. The spring was difficult to set and kept coming undone. I could never get it to even get set up right. A waste of money. Threw it away. A friend already told me the same thing happened. Should have listened.

Works great. You must set it correctly, dig out the hole, clear out dirt and set on a slight angle put dirt around the perimeter to block the light from getting in except thru the hole on the end. I've probably caught 15 gophers, the first one was within 15 min of setting the trap.

When setting this trap up, make sure that the trip bar is straight, not curved. Only engage the trap mechanism enough to hold the trip bar, less is better. Cover the top of the trap with something that blocks light such as a black trash bag.

Seems well built and the stainless is nice. Should last for a while. Only issue is I couldn't catch gophers with these. I am in Northern California and no matter what advice I read from others and applied, all that ever happened is the trap is full of dirt and not triggered. I tried a bucket over the top, cover with dirt, and add bait all with the same result of nothing but dirt being pushed in. I bought something else and getting results.

Caught gopher within 2 hours after learning how to properly use the trap. Here are some tips. When you find an active hole, digital it out enough to lay the trap somewhat flat inside, so that the mouth of the trap lines up with the hole. I put peanuts in the back of the trap. For those of you complaining that the gopher fills it with dirt, its because you are not blocking out all the light. Its best to cover the trap with loose soil/dirt as to make sure the light is blocked out completely. If you are unsure, also throw a bucket over it too. There must be NO LIGHT or it will get filled with dirt. Do some research on how to properly trap gophers. Blindly setting a trap with no knowledge will not get you good results. If you do it right, this trap works every time. Although it doesnt always kill them quickly. Sometimes they suffer for hours. FYI.

I’m not sure why people are leaving negative reviews. They must not know how to use this trap. It is the easiest trap I’ve ever used and I have caught a gopher every time I set it. I almost didn’t buy this because of the negative reviews. I have tried every method other than poison, to no avail. I have used this trap for 9 days and caught 21 gophers on my property. If you follow the directions (which are straightforward and simple) you will catch a gopher every time. Best trap I’ve ever used. Some people want to hate on a product when in the end it is user error, in my opinion.
