While completing his preparation for the ministry, Jonathan Edwards (1703โ1758) wrote seventy resolutions that guided him throughout his life. About twenty years later, he wrote a letter to young Deborah Hatheway, a new convert in a nearby town, advising her concerning the Christian life. These two writings, often reprinted during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, overflow with straightforward and biblically sound advice. This advice is as current today as it was in the 1700s, and it far surpasses the how-to books now overrunning bookstores. Review: Must read at least once in life. - A modern language version would be helpful Review: Make them your own - I try to go over these resolutions every week. Iโve made them my own. Itโs worth far more than it cost.

All modern Christians should read this book.
No institution has so successfully trivialized Christianity as the modern Christian church. The parishioner is told, "if you make a public profession of faith you are saved" end of story. You are going to heaven - period. You need not worry about sin in your life, in the cleansing of the Holy Spirit if we confess our sins or what Jesus told us about how to live our lives. Why bother, I have walked down the "sawdust trail" and all is well. Edwards was under no such illusion. Modern Christians should read and live by these resolutions for cleansing from their sins and awareness of their sins and need of a savior. This awareness is gained in part from confession. These resolutions are a good start for us all.

Incredibly insightful
Johnathan Edwards was certainly a brilliant man with a wonderful blessing of wisdom. This list of his 70 Resolutions is a great aid to help train yourself with better thinking and acting practices. Definately a good thing to read over regularly to test yourself. And also his Advice to Young Converts is also a very insightful letter to a young girl that had recently become converted. His advice is to a young girl, but is obviously applicable to all. Definately a great short guide to more effective Christian living.

A yearly review
A yearly (or weekly) review of Jonathan Edwardโs Resolutions is a profitable habit to develop. An easy way to review them weekly is to read and reflect upon 10 per day. Self examination that leads to true repentance is a difficult but necessary task in the Christian life, and both his Resolutions and Advice to Young (and Old!) Converts will guide you in this.

An appropriate standard for Christian living
A challenging yet inspirational short book. An insight into the mind of a young Edwards showing how seriously he took matters of the soul. The bar is set high here (as it should be) but with humility, comfort and love ever present.

A model of Christian Maturity !
This book is an incredible look into the mind of a truly great Christian mind, even in his early 20's. If our churches even a few people with Jonathan Edwards vision as he has laid it out in this book, we would have a great Spiritual move of God in North America. Adopting even a few of Jonathan Edwards resolutions would have and incredibly positive impact on North American Christianity. Don't overlook this short book. It is loaded with powerful insight.

Portable
I bought this booklet so that I'd have a list of Edwards' Resolutions that was easy to refer to. I can carry this with me easily. I enjoy being able to dip into it from time to time.
