Perfect for traveling. Get extra batteries, you'll need them.
I took this on a month long overseas trip. And I've used it around my workshop to make videos. GOOD: The flip up display for use from in front of the camera is great. The video quality is good, and so is the picture quality PROVIDED there's enough light. There are a zillion options to tweak the shots, I'm sure I've only scraped the surface with them. The zoom is pretty amazing and the auto-stabilization works really well. The thing is really tiny and convenient to move around. NOT SO GOOD: The low-light capabilities are pretty atrocious to be honest, and this is widely reported in other reviews and I knew this before I bought it. There's occasions when it struggles to focus even in good light but that's autofocus for you. It does go through batteries, on average I used 3 a day when traveling, just taking happy snaps of things I saw. TERRIBLE : The wireless/phone interface transfer stuff is truly 18th century and Sony should be embarrassed by it. Without any doubt the only real way to transfer stuff from the camera is to yank out the memory card and plug it into a laptop. I'm glad I bought a huge memory card because if I'd had to manage "remaining shots" on my trip by transferring to my phone it would have been a nightmare. SUMMARY: This is a highly functional, portable camera with good imaging quality and amazing zoom capabilities. Just don't expect to use it at night, without doubt your phone will do a better job.

Great, tiny point and shoot travel camera.
What makes a great travel camera? Small size. Good picture quality. Flexible range. Good auto mode. Some manual controls. The Sony HX99 has all these features. Its hard to beat a tiny point and shoot that can fit in your pocket and can take everything from modestly wide landscapes to long telephoto shots. About the only strike against it might be the price. If you want a "take everywhere and do everything" camera that can out do your phone camera, I would recommend taking a good look at the HX99.

Wish it had GPS like older models. Amazing zoom in a tiny package.
In previous years, the Sony compact zoom cameras had build-in GPS which is a great feature for a camera whose main purpose is travel photography. Sony has replaced built-in GPS with a phone app -- this solution is hit-and-miss. I frequently loose the connection between the camera and phone, meaning that I either don't have location data or I have to fiddle with my settings (usually stop and restart Bluetooth on the phone) to reestablish the connection. We also frequently travel with two Sony cameras and both cannot connect to the phone simultaneously. And of course it doesn't work if you aren't carrying a phone. When the app works, it is probably better than built-in GPS because it is always up-to-date. The old built-in GPS would often take time to establish a satellite connection. So there are trade-offs either way. I put up with this limitation because the camera is very versatile and takes good pictures. The zoom can bring subject very close and is great for wildlife shots. Sometimes, especially at full zoom, the pictures can be a little fuzzy but overall it is amazing that such a small camera can do so much.

Sony DSC-HX99 Compact Digital 18.2 MP Camera #pointAndShoot
Sony DSC-HX99 Compact Digital 18.2 MP Camera - excellent point and shoot camera. I was looking for a point and shoot - with** a Viewfinder as well as great zoom since I seldom get close enough to shoot close-ups now at my advanced age. This does the work for me. It will take a while to master all the menus and take advantage of all the features in the software... it's a lot to learn. That said - on Auto it takes great photos. Zoom is terrific and the clarity is as good and better! than my old 35mm SLR with telephoto. Sony has definitely done a stellar job with this camera including the Zeiss lens. #PointAndShoot#ZoomPerfection#ViewFinder

Bad product
This camera I bought it here in Feb 2024. Not soon Right after the purchase , the battery covers could not click lock. I went to service and repaired as warranty. Fine. However soon in March 3025 the camera couldn’t power on and even couldn’t charge. I thought it was a dead battery so I bought a new one for it but still don’t work. I sent it to an authorized service center trying to get it fixed, but they eventually handed up and couldn’t repair it. So be careful if you want to buy such model. It’s so frustrating . I thought this is a very good brand but seems I am wrong

Likable camera, but not the best zoom photos
I have an iPhone 13 Pro. My Canon SX740 broke, so I was looking for a replacement long-zoom compact camera. I wanted to keep this small, convenient, and user-friendly camera with a good user guide! But the Sony night photos often did not focus, even when I set manual focus to infinity. The Sony does not have image stabilization, which is amazing for a long-zoom camera. Comparisons. The iPhone takes better photos in the day and at night. The Canon takes longer zoom photos that have better focus, so I returned the Sony. The Sony is slightly more usable than the Panasonic ZS80 with a more helpful user guide, online help guide, and PDF manual.

Fantastic camera
I bought this as an upgrade for my son who gad a previous Sony superzoom that fell into the ocean. It was backordered a long time but worth the weight. Despite a small sensor, the images are great. Even when zoomed in there is virtually no barrel or ouncyshion and the images are incredibly sharp

Great little camera!
I love the size of this camera and the very long zoom. It takes really great photos. It can fit in your pocket and you don't need to carry heavy lenses with you. If you are looking for a compact, point and shoot camera for a relatively low price, you should consider the Sony DSC-HX99.

Great walk around camera-complimentary to my Mobile Phone
PRO: This is a great little slip in the pocket walk around camera with an amazing zoom. My Samsung Galaxy 10+ is just terrific but often there are situations that even my PRO setting on the phone cannot handle what I am wanting to capture. So out I whip the Sony and shoot in Manual mode. I'm a photojournalist and have the Canon Flagship DX 's cameras for studio, theater, sports events that the Sony could not handle. However I cannot carry the heavy gear around all the time plus its very intrusive for street shots and that's where the combination of my cell phone and this Sony comes into play. I can honestly say the image quality of th Sony and indeed my Galaxy 10+ are on a par with my pro cameras (I tested it) BUT but under the right circumstances. I can even shoot in RAW so post work in Lightroom/Photoshop dos not degrade the fnl image image. It has a wealth of functions that use to be found only in Pro-level cameras. The wireless wifi/Bluetooth network setting are a mist in today's world. I can instantly post to Instagram or the news room of various journals (my phone in hotspot mode). I can really recommend this camera. CONS: Almost non. The on-off button is too small and difficult to turn on and off so instead of using it I pull up and out the electronic viewfinder and this switches on the camera and push back into the camera the EV when done. Faster and easier than using the on off button. I have seen complaints that the buttons and the control wheel are too small well lets remember this is a super compact camera with very advanced features.

Amazing zoom and great pocket camera
I have own a version of this camera for a while, the DSC-H60, H80 and now HX99. The zoom on this camera has always been amazing and now comes with a dial disc that can be customizable for different functions. I use it for exposure time. In general it is a great camera, the zoom is really good and it is very portable. On the bad things, the auto settings for auto+ could be a bit better. Some times i need to adjust colour and exposure after having taken the shot. The camera is good for night shots when there is somewhat background lighting (i.e. nightshots on a city street at night) however its aperture of 3.5 wont let you get great quality pictures on very low light environments. It is an 18.2 megapixels camera, i think with the several iterations this camera has had they could have upped the pixels a little bit. But quality is good enough as it is though. In my opinion it is a bit pricey for the type of camera, but still i think it is a great purchase. I like to have it for a specific function which is very close up shots from far away. And an overall good alternative to my phone camera. It does this job very well. I recommend this product

Aucun regret
