Product Description Closer, The: The Complete Third Season (DVD)Television's top detective is back on the case, as Emmy® Award nominee and Golden Globe Award winner Kyra Sedgwick returns as feminine yet forceful, offbeat yet indomitable, CIA-trained Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a former Atlanta detective brought to Los Angeles to head a special Los Angeles Police Department unit charged with cracking sensitive, high-profile murder cases. Brenda is an expert at digging into a person's secrets and obtaining confessions, despite constantly struggling with her own imperfections and neuroses. But just as Brenda finds her place in the world, a financial crisis at the LAPD rocks the ground under her feet. Her struggle to solve murders on a budget -- while protecting individual members of her squad from layoffs, transfers and early retirements -- endangers her friendships, tests her loyalties and shifts her alliances as she goes about closing each case.]]> desertcart.com Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) is back in season three of TNT's crime procedural The Closer. With a couple years at the Los Angeles police department already under her belt, Brenda has proven that her eccentric method works at getting confessions from even the most hardened criminals. But even she's not quite sure how to handle the season opener, where a slaughtered family's sole survivor is the stunned, stoned teenage son. Bleak, dark and wonderfully scripted, the opener sets the tone for the 14 episodes that follow it. With an exaggerated Southern drawl that belies her hard edged attitude, Brenda is at her best in the field. But when dropped into personal situations, she often flounders. For instance, though she commands a team of officers underneath her, she still doesn't know how to tell her parents she lives with her boyfriend, FBI special agent Fritz Howard (Jon Tenney, Fools Rush In). The awkward (and sometimes poignant) moments between Johnson and her folks humanize her, giving her added dimension. Sedgwick is adept at comedy, and a couple of the episodes take advantage of her skills. Jostling with an over zealous bridezilla at a crime scene, Johnson becomes the subject of a popular Youtube video. "You've become the most downloaded fully-clothed woman on the Internet," announces her boss, Will Pope (J.K. Simmons). There is some internal drama when Brenda is ordered to make budget cuts by firing someone in her group. But the best moments occur when Brenda--calm as a cucumber--does what she does best: closes cases. Aside from a couple episodes that allude to past years, this third season (which originally aired in 2007), is easy to follow even for new viewers who haven't seen previous episodes. --Jae-Ha Kim Review: great show - Got this as a gift for my dad and he loves it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE and MISS, MISS, MISS THE CLOSER!
The Closer is one of my all time favorite shows. I own it on DVD and digital. I LOVED IT. I think it is Kyra Sedgwick’s best work BY FAR! I will say that even though I think the cast was the best and the stories were great. I think that the idea that a CIA trained investigator that wouldn’t be able to lose her southern accent, is SO UNBELIEVABLE!! AND......BEING AN EDUCATED SOUTHERN WOMAN, the first few seasons she sounded almost, (well not almost, she DID) SILLY. I mean you’d think they’d done their homework and learned that CIA, or Intelligence workers like that work harder than reporters do to shed their “non regional diction”. So that part always confused me. But the accent did get a bit more believable as the seasons went on. I wish she’d kept going though. I mean they only worked like 4mnths of the year anyway. And as much as I Love Kyra and Kevin and support their family, but her current comedy show (Call Your Mother), is TERRIBLE! It is SOOOO SILLY! Not fun silly, dumb silly. Time wasting silly! Shocking silly. B/C Kyra is a funny girl.

The BEST 'Closer' Yet!
In Season Three, 'The Closer' cements its reputation as one of the smartest, sharpest, cleverest and most humorous ensemble dramas on television. Kudos to Kyra Sedgwick for creating one of the most complex and consistently entertaining female characters ever in a series. The third season features some of the best acting and the most complex storylines to date. Sedgwick anchors the show as the inimitable Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, but she does not create this excellence in a vacuum--she gets outstanding support from crackerjack scripts and the other members of the cast, who are all colorful and loveable in their own right. As the series has progressed, the Priority Homicide Squad has taken on the tone of a real family, with all the squabbling and deep loyalties that go along with it. Though I am hard-pressed to pick a favorite among the supporting cast, I have to say that Jon Tenney as FBI Agent Fritz Howard is the hottest Feebie ever, in or out of the real Bureau! I guess I will have to wait until Season Four comes out on DVD to see what further havoc Brenda wreaks on their relationship. This series is a MUST OWN!

Sorry to see it "Closed"
I will say right off, this is a review of the series in general. Seems silly to write one for each year. I like so many others watched this when it was on the air. It was one of the few shows I set up on my TIVO with a Season pass. Like most TV police shows it had a lot of procedural mistakes. Despite this. It tried hard to make it believable. The characters were a great team. They all had they're own charm and make this one of the best police shows ever. As sad as I was to see it end, I was glad it did when it did. As so many others on a fixed income I was forced to give up cable. I saw the 1st episode of " Major Crimes " which replaced it and it appeared it would carry on the tradition. The fact that this show gave a look into the lives of the officers off duty as well as on made for many great story lines. Humor included. For those who have never viewed it, (are there any) I strongly say, its a great series to slam through.

A friend introduced me to this series. Just love it! It is not a glizty, high-tech crime series. Real crimes, real people, real life, is how I would describe it. Brenda is awesome at her job, but goes home to a private life that mimics so many viewers... she is not perfect all the time! She has insecurities, the most patient boy-friend in the world, (cute-too!), and a messy house that rivals my own! A gourmet cook, she isn't, but getting murder confessions using some pretty skillful tactics, she more than excels. And comedic moments, I did not expect from a crime series, leave me going to bed with a smile on my face!

“Kyra Sedgwick is so good for this part as assistant chief Brenda Lee Johnson, who runs the Major Crimes unit, with her band of merry-men, she can pick away at any subject, (person) in the end she have them eating out of her hands, love this show, glad they started a new one, “Major Crimes, With Mary McDonald” that played Captain Rader on the Closer” Love It ..
