Impressed so far!!
I rarely write reviews but I know how helpful they are, especially when looking for and investing like this. I’ve had dark facial hair for years, thankfully mostly under the chin, but it has still bothered me and has gotten thicker and more wide spread over the years, despite having paid for laser and IPL treatment in the past. I I have wanted to buy one of these type of things for years, but was never sure if they were worth investing in as they are quite expensive and having bought a home laser kit years ago which did very little, I was sceptical. I’ve only performed one treatment so far with this, however I have noticed a significant slowing of the growth in the hair treated, which is synonymous with the clinic treatments I’ve had in the past. I was tempted to go over the area again at first, as it seemed to be less intense a feeling than the clinic treatments I’d had in the past (I’m using the second highest-highest setting as suggested by the skin tone test). But having waited a week I’m glad I’ve stuck to the instructions, I did cause myself some pigment discolouration with the laser kit years ago by doing this so I would suggest following the instructions fully with this. My hair is quite thick and I honestly wasn’t expecting to see results like that straight away, and of course it’s early days and I’ll have to see how the regrow things is affected, but I think the result so far is a promising sign that the device is doing what it’s meant to. I’m only one week after my first treatment so I’ll come back and update this review in a few weeks once more results are clear, but if you’re like me and wanting to get rid of or at least find a better way to manage unwanted facial hair, this could be a great option... as long as you have the right skin tone and hair colour etc. So far I would recommend this as a good option for people looking to reduce hair growth. I don’t expect to completely get rid of it for good, but even professional treatment won’t do that. And at the half the price of 1 course of treatment this looks like it could be a much more cost effective option too! UPDATE: 2 weeks after my second treatment, most of the hair on my chin area has gone completely! I’m really quite surprised and impressed by the effectiveness of this device, I was expecting to have to wait longer for these kind of results. So far I’m very happy with it and would recommend it for those with similar problem facial hair, with the right colour and skin tone of course.

Better than Braun Silk Epil
First time I used Braun Pro Silk Epil 5 and honestly I am not saying that it did nothing, but the results were somwhat visible after many sessions and still were not the expected ones. However, I can say that the Philips one did wonders for me. It is really amazing and it does what is says. I am die my first touch up session, but I could say that I have noticed results since the first session. It is easy to use also. Therefore I highly recommend you go for this one rather than the Braun one if you want better results. The only 2 negative things were the carry on pouch which is not thick enough in my opinion and the fact that you might need to restart and wait for a few minutes if it gets too warm while using it.

It works
PCOS facial hair!! If you suffer this you honestly need this machine! I had bought a lovedock laser hair removal a few years back, it didn’t do a thing so I was sceptical, I used the Philips lumea last night and no stubble whatsoever this morning, we’re about 12 hours post use and skin is super smooth, I’m shook, and so happy. Usually I’ll start to have regrowth within a couple of hours after a whiz around my face. I will say I struggled with my face shape I have prominent bone structure so the machine struggled in areas like my jaw line, chin and under my chin and parts of the cheek, the sensor wasn’t working as well as say my side burns where the surface area was flatter. No pain at all I’m very fair skinned with darker hair in place and light in others I used level 5 as recommended on the app. Will update after another treatment

Excellent results!
I have been using this product since June 2023. From the first use, I noticed a dramatic reduction of hair growth on my face. My underarms and legs took around 3 treatments before I noticed significant changes but I’m so happy! The bikini line can take longer to see results as it is a very sensitive area; I tend to use a lower setting. You do get used to heat the sensation and I am now using a higher setting for all other areas. Make sure you stick to the treatment schedule as I believe my results would have been better if I hadn’t forgotten to do it (that’s how fine the hair grows back!). The app makes this much easier to track. You do have to put time aside to do it, especially for your legs. I would recommend scheduling the treatments for different weeks because if the device overheats it shuts down and you have to leave it for a while to cool. I don’t mind this though. The pictures you see are after 1 week of no shaving. I am from south Asian descent with thick, dark hair so this product has been a real godsend. I now have no dark shadow on my underarms and my hair is so much easier to manage. Worth the money.

Philips will no longer replace if faulty. Product had same fault twice, check your fittings
I've used this product or a version of it for some time, it helps me maintain hair growth rather than get rid of it all together btw.. if you want to get ride of hair it's worth saving up for professional laser hair removal. I noticed a crack in my laser attachment, not sure when it happened but thought best to ask for a replacement. The customer care service from Philips is appalling, even if you bought direct. Your account will show no orders or subscriptions despite you purchasing directly. There's broken journeys all over their website and you have to jump through hoops to find the right information they need just to confirm your item. Anyway long story short, they agreed to replace as long as i sent the item back first. This whole process took around 3-4 weeks. 2 months into using the new device and the same crack appears, again went through the ridiculously long process of getting a replacement, i post my item back and a month goes by with no new item. Turns out they can't ship replacement parts out now due to EU regulations, no one explained this so i had to chase again about my missing replacement and only then did they offer a refund. Which requires proof of purchase and contacting them again through their broken customer care process. I'm currently sat in a live chat where no one has responded for 15 minutes.. no refund, poor communication process and no way to replace any part of your item if it is fault. AVOID

I wish I’d bought one years ago
This has worked an absolute treat. I have pale skin and dark brown hair, so probably the optimum combination for using it. Had previously had salon IPL which had worked very well in just a couple of sessions, but the hairs on my legs had grown back quite a lot and I wanted a higher bikini line than I could afford at the salon! Did my legs every two weeks for four sessions then again after a month. Now I’m just doing spot zaps when the odd hair pops up, every 2-4 weeks. I no longer need to shave armpits or legs at all, which is pretty good. I just use the little trimmer and then zap, but I’d say there were 10 single hairs total on my legs this week, after 3-4 weeks regrowth. It has also worked really well on bikini line and above lip. I’ve done my bikini every week, which is not strictly in line with instructions, but has been effective. It works on whole area, even darker skin, although the hairs are a little more stubborn so it’s taken quite a few sessions. You have to be prepared to spend about an hour a week on this. I did lower legs, armpits and bikini one week, then upper legs, lip and bikini the next. It keeps the sessions shorter. But I’d say I’ve done 8 sessions max and now I’m pretty much just doing upkeep. My legs feel smooth and lovely and I’ll never have to be worried about impromptu swimming again 😊😂 I only find it a little painful and warm in intimate bikini area and armpits, where I turn it down to 3 and 4 respectively. otherwise I’d genuinely say it’s painless, even on highest setting 5. I’m so pleased with this. I hate shaving and waxing and this is a piece of cake compared with those and considerably longer lasting. I wish I’d bought one years ago.

PCOS Facial Hair: Actually works!
I bought this item back in lockdown when I was single. I figured I had nothing much to do so might as well leave Covid glamorously - emerge from the depths as bald as a baby. I did one facial treatment.. and stopped. Forgot about the machine for like 4 years. I’ve recently moved in with my partner and it makes it impossible to hide my PCOS beard from him: if you shave it every day eventually it becomes so thick and skin rashes start. Can’t leave it to grow long enough to pluck it both because he’ll see I look like brian blessed but also because it takes a good hour to pluck and that man can’t even let me pee without asking me where I am so no chance I’m going to get a bit of quiet time to pluck my shame out. Bit of a nightmare: will my partner discover my hairy little secret… well no, he won’t. Because I remembered this machine! I’ve just finished my third treatment. After only two treatments, I’ve been able to stop shaving every day. There’s definitely a lot of progress - I have a couple of patches of thick hair where I’ve missed, but not my whole under chin. It takes about 10 mins to do the treatment once every 2 weeks to start. It isn’t very noisy so I just sneak off to my office and zap myself. I have slightly olive skin and dark hair, Ive followed instructions from the free app and done the patch testing and was able to tolerate level 5 straight off. Really happy with it, next up: legs and pits. Just need to find a way and a reason to emerge fabulously now with my hair free body.

Works in places but not a quick fix
Second update: so I’m now onto my maintenance time and all the hair grows back- it’s just white. I think I didn’t notice before but having to still do this every 4 weeks and not doing anything in between - shaving or waxing- it’s very obvious that it’s mostly growing back. Not worth the money in my opinion to actually not be a permanent thing as I thought it was. UPDATE: it’s amazing buy it! I’m now 4 treatments in and it’s honestly amazing. Underarm hair GONE. Bikini line GONE. Upper lip GONE. Legs still need work but I think I’ve got a bad technique and find I miss loads of bits as the light square is small BUT hair is massively reduced and just patchy. Again I have fair skin and dark hair so the optimum for the best results. So initially it seems slow but a short while down the line and I’ve got amazing results. So this was a big investment for me and my second most expensive beauty buy. I’ve used this item twice- you have to use it every 2 weeks and while it’s been effective on my underarms, very slow and minimal regrowing, it hasn’t been effective anywhere else yet. I have been waxing for 10 years so my hair has already thinned and is patchy regrow in places already. I have the ultimate complexion for this item, dark brown/black hair and very fair skin. You have to shave before using this item, it says you can wax but it targets the hair still inside the follicle and if waxed out I’m not sure how effective this would be, I’m a bit bummed to be shaving again but am giving it a shot and will continue as it does seem to have worked on my underarms. It is not a quick fix and needs numerous treatments to be effective- according to the manual, and reviews, but I am genuinely happy with my under arms so far. If I see this over my whole areas I will say it’s a fantastic buy- time will tell. It’s not permanent and says even after ‘finishing’ treatment it needs to be used once a month. Interesting to see if this is true. The worst things about it are: 1. The light square where it comes form is small and an absolute pain for larger areas such as legs! It’s a long process and wish it was quicker. 2. It can be hard to have the direct contact needed to actually flash. It won’t flash without having full contact which is near on impossible on areas like knees so waiting to see how that works out. 3. It makes my arm and hand ache because of the length of the process doing my legs. Smaller areas are ok. 4. The flash is very very bright. But as I’ve said it seems to have been really effective on my underarms so I could potentially forgive the cons. I haven’t had any irritation, it says for my skin type to use 5 level and it’s been fine for me so far. The sensation itself is like when you touch something hot quickly and then pull your hand away- not painful just unusual. Will update in a few months.
