Room to grow
This is a marvelous collection of Shirley Hughes poems and stories for young children. With its tales of family life and all its ups and downs, it is just right for our almost 4 year old granddaughter. Plus there is room to grow as the later stories in the book will be suitable for when she gets a bit older.

Ein wunderbares, tolles Buch
Meine Tochter ist 5, und wir sprechen zuhause etwas Englisch. Auch ein England-Urlaub war schon mal drin. Einzelne englische Kinderbücher sind sehr teuer - hier handelt es sich um ein dickes Konvolut von Shirley Hughes - in der scheinbar alle, auf jeden Fall auch ihre besten Geschichten mit enthalten sind. Sie tauchen ein in eine typisch englische Familie der 60er und 70er Jahre, in der ein bisschen heile Welt ist (oder auch noch war), in der Urlaub zum Strand ansteht, die lustige Geschichte mit dem kleinen Bruder, der Haustür, die zugeschlagen wurde, der Teddy, der verloren und wiedergefunden wurde - etc. Es sind wunderbare Zeichnungen, wunderbare Geschichten, und auch die Sprache ist so, dass sie einfach ist und gut übersetzbar. Einziger Nachteil ist, dass die Geschichten etwas lang sind, und schon 2, 3 oder gar 4 Vorlese-Abende brauchen. Insgesamt aber absolut empfehlenswert, sehr zeitlos und auch zum günstigen Preis - unschlagbar. Go and buy!

Lovely timeless stories
We received this as a gift, and my two year old son loves it. The early stories are sweet and compelling for him. We love to curl up together with this book. The first time I read Dogger, I choked up. Timeless stories for children that we will enjoy for years to come.
