Klaris Clear Ice Maker, 4 Large 2-Inch Ice Cubes for Whiskey & Cocktails

YES, IT WORKS AND IT’S EASY.I’ve tried so many different methods for clear ice, and they’ve all been hugely disappointing.This is the real deal! It’s really as simple as fill up the tray and push the button. There are lots of reviews talking about using a specific kind of water, at a specific temperature- that’s all baloney. If you’ve got filtered tap water, you’re good to go.The only downside is the fact that you have to “harvest” the ice cubes and store them; it’s not the kind of icemaker that will also function as a fridge. But for these results, it’s well worth the 5 minutes of your time, and some space in your freezer. I do recommend getting the storage trays - they’re very helpful to avoid having ice cubes stick together.The delay feature is nice, but I wish it had more options (2/4/8 hours is all it’ll give you). Trying to do this in summertime, it’s taking 12 hours to run a cycle, so I have to do some mental math with the delays, if I’m running this on a weeknight.

This is the first big whisky type square cube ice maker I have ever bought so I have no idea how well others work. But this one works. I am very happy and satisfied with the Klaris. If you follow the instructions knocking down any bubbles underneath the provided ice shape clear plastic forms and use distilled water you will get invisible cubes of ice. So clear you can barely see them in the whiskey. Cubes like diamonds once I started using distilled water. The fresher the ice the clearer. If you store them a while in your freezer they might gather some frost on the bottom edge, or cloud up a tiny bit on the bottom side, until you place them in the whisky, but fresh out of the Klaris they are crystal clear. I was blown away by how clear once I used distilled water. Regular water worked well and you could get a very close to totally clear cube, sometimes perfect, especially when you place the cube into the whisky in a glass, it nearly vanishes. I finally tried distilled water just because Klaris recommended it if you want to guarantee a clarity all the way to perfection. Incredible how well this works. Glass like clarity. It takes about 8 hours to make four cubes but so what. Set it at night, and come break them out in the morning. Store as many pre-made cubes as you like in your freezer. You can purchase additional cube storage bins Klaris sells. I have five bins holding four cubes each. 20 beautiful whiskys worth ready to serve. I like the quality of materials in the solid construction of the machine as well. Looks solid and operates quite quietly. A simple postage stamp sized little screen on top to let you know when the ice is ready. Very user friendly and fun.

For years I’ve been using the directional freezing coolers you put in your freezer with good results. But I’d have to boil water, wait 24 hours, make sure I have room in my freezer, etc. This Klaris ice maker is the real deal. No more mess or wasting time. I use bottled water. You only need 1-1/2 bottles to fill it, as opposed to almost 4 bottles for the cooler type. Takes about 10 hours. Much faster than the freezer.The ice is soooo clear. Comes out like glass. Yes it’s pricey, probably overpriced, but dang, it works.

I’ve been on something like a 5-year journey of learning how to make the perfect clear ice for my bar. I’ve tried almost every ice mold, cooler, etc…that you can buy. For the last year, I’ve been using Fat Tuesday cups placed inside 32oz Yeti insulated beverage coolers. They work great, but they can take 24-36 hours and then you have a small window where you have to harvest the ice.One of my friends turned me onto this machine and after a month of waffling as to whether the price was worth it, I can tell you, without a doubt, it is! It takes all the headaches out of producing clear ice. I can turn out four perfectly clear ice cubes in about 9-10 hours (average). Very easy to de-mold. I just use filtered tap water out of my fridge. I store them in my freezer using the Klaris storage trays. The Collins insert works just as good. I love the fact that it holds the ice within a 5-6 hour window in which you have an opportunity to harvest the ice. You can also set the machine to delay the start of the process for 2-4 hours, so you can plan the ice to be ready when you are available. Highly recommend!

If you can afford it and want clear ice, get it!Pictures are of the 2 inch cubes that you can make with the included mold. The Collins cube mold is sold separately. Added an extra to show a 2 inch cube with my drink cause why not.Usage Tips: (in addition to already given instructions)When harvesting ice, unplug the machine and leave the lid open. This will start the process of it warming up to room temperature (reason later). Do NOT start your next batch right away!While the mold is upside-down, work the corners first. Think like you are reading a piece of paper, start at the top-left work all the way over before going back but then a little lower. This will gradually break the ice free from the mold.Remember the key to clear ice is a slow process. That is why I mentioned to unplug the machine and leave the lid open. After your ice harvesting, go watch a TV show or do something else for about an hour then come back to start your next batch of ice.Pre-insert the plastic inserts and tap them down with the back of a spoon (I use a long spoon). I use water directly from my tap, which is considered hard water since it is well water. Try to have it as close to room temperature as possible. Don't go full blast, get a steady stream of water. Essentially try to reduce the amount of bubbles when adding the water. If you've got a faucet that you can pull to a flat surface nearby, fill up the mold there so you can get it to the fill line with no issues. Resist the urge to go over the fill line! Ice expands and can since the lid has a spinner, the extra water could get spun out the sides.Wipe up any left over water that is still on the inside of the machine (make sure there isn't any water on the bottom or you'll be struggling to pull out the mold when it's harvest time). Set the filled mold in there and close the lid. Plug it back in and start it up!Pros:Clear Ice to drink my Dr. Pepper with style.Keeps my Dr. Pepper cold with no after taste of fast frozen well water.Easy to clean, after all it's just water.Cons:User error with haste can result in semi-frosted ice on the bottom.Didn't consider that I really need more freezer space...Machine is just slightly louder than my fridge/freezer combo. But not that bad cause it's a lower pitch than a mosquito.
