Easy to set up, easy to use, like having a gun range inside your house
First of all: when you order, you don't get the software right away. Instead, you get a card in the mail (basically, a gift card) that has the license code under a scratch-off panel. It takes 2-3 days for the card to arrive. Setup: Incredibly easy. Just follow the instructions to download and set up the software. When you open the software, you'll watch a four-minute video explaining how to get started. Couldn't be simpler. I use the SIRT training pistol with the software (red laser), and it works perfectly. How it works: Start the software and aim your webcam at the wall where you'll be shooting. Use the triangle, circle, and square drawing tools to draw hit boxes on the wall (it's just like drawing shapes in MS paint). Hit the start button and start shooting. All laser strikes within the hit boxes you've drawn count as hits. The software supports up to nine targets at once. The options: this is where it gets fun. You have a lot of options available which allow you to customize your training as well as increase and decrease difficulty. Here's an example of my current setup: 6 targets: call target, Par 1.2, 50 shots, pause shooting at Par, reload mode on, reload every 5-10 rounds. Sound: gunshot and metal target When I hit start, the computer calls out a target number. I have 1.2 seconds to acquire and hit the target (if I take too long, the hit doesn't count). Every five to ten rounds, the computer calls out "reload!", forcing me to switch magazines before I can continue shooting. Every time I pull the trigger, I hear a gunshot, and whenever I hit a target I get that satisfying metal "clang". After 50 shots, the exercise is over and I can review all my hits and misses. If I want to make the exercise harder, I can reduce the Par time, increase the number of targets (and make them smaller), and double the number of total shots to really force myself to concentrate. This is just one example of how you can use the options to create drills. There's many more. You're really just limited by your imagination. Bottom line: this software allows you to set up a shooting range in your house, as well as customize that range to your specific needs. It works well, is very easy to use, and allows you to shoot hundreds of rounds every day without going to the range. If you're looking to improve your marksmanship without spending a fortune on ammo, this (combined with a dry-fire laser) is the best available solution.

Best competition practice tool ever
I think once I get more familiar with the program I will rate it a 5. I'm an old geezer and if I had one of my grandchildren here to help with that it would probably be a 5 now. I love the timing functions. This makes dry fire practice very productive. The built in help is good. I haven't had enough difficulties to need the on line help yet. Here in the Iowa winter practice at the range can be too cold or too wet, so being able to practice indoors at home is awesome. Oh, if I added the cost of the ammo I would have shot in the week since I got setup it has already paid for itself.

I really enjoy using L
I really enjoy using L.A.S.R. This software allows you to set up your own practice range in your house. It works in combination with a SIRT pistol, laser pistol or rifle, or laser cartridge. You create your own targets. You arrange them in whatever pattern you wish for training. Run the software, select which webcam if you have more than one. Point the webcam at the targets and either draw the targets with the software, or load a target pattern you've saved prior and make any small adjustments to align the images with the actual targets. Now, pick your desired training regimen off the menu in the software, and start shooting! That may seem complicated, but it's not. It's really easy to set up your target, or target array. Do it once and you'll be an expert. For timed practice, you arrange your target, or target array, then the software can call out your targets randomly, calling out by number or by a number of different target label attributes. You can designate a reset area just like you drew a target. Shooting the reset area clears the statistics, and starts another practice run. That lets you practice without having to stop and interact with mouse or keyboard. You can save practice session results. You can compare different saved sessions with the software's built-in reporting to see where you're improving, and where you may need more work. You can pick the sound of a hit from several options. There are way too many features and permutations to go through here, suffice it to say there are many options, its a great tool that's a lot of fun. Also, the vendor provides free updates. I am very pleased with this software.

Overpriced for what you get.
Very expensive for what you getโฆ I researched and watched videos of LASR shot reporting system and similar setups and was initially very excited to purchase the software for use in my Glock hangun and AR 15 with the Laserlyte training slugs. I figured I could use the camera in my Laptop and be able to โDry โ zeroโ my firearms and practice on this software and then โrange qualifyโ every other month or so to conserve ammo. I realize that with the Laserlyte inserts I would need to rack the slide/pull charging handle between shots but I did not have the money to invest in the more expensive SIRT laser bolt and etc which is ok. Well, I can get by with my laptop camera (low quality) for now and the Laserlyte inserts (excellent quality), but the software itself should have much more functionality for the price. The greatest perk is to be able to post any target you wish on the wall, and of course if you have a laser that can fire repeatedly between racking/charging you can time your shots and speed accuracy/precision as well. However, unless you get the plug-in packages from $5-$20 you cannot designate scoring on your targets, and you donโt get pre-formatted targets nor do you get additional target save abilities. I am quite disappointed and just recently read that there is now open source software called ShootOff that essentially does the same thing as LASR only at no cost save peripherals (Laser insert, webcam). Although it does what it claims to do, LASR is not at all a value for the money as I have unfortunately learned too late.

WOW!!
Wow!! I don't often get carried away by enthusiasm for things I buy, but this thing is special. It really lives up to its promise. So, let's begin at the beginning. The price is about $12.00 less than you can buy it on the developer's site. What else do you need? You need a Windows version computer, and it makes sense to use a laptop because of portability. You need a webcam. I got a $22.50 Logitech one from Amazon and it works fine. You need a laser shooting device. This can be a SIRT pistol which is fashioned after a Glock 17 and is sold on Amazon and other places. This pistol allows follow up shots without racking your slide but I wanted to use my own guns and I wanted to avoid the expense of the SIRT. So, I bought a Sure Strike laser bullet in 9mm for my CW9 and a 38 special adapter for my S&W and Charter revolvers. I already had a LaserLyte system that fits in the muzzle but I found LASR system only recorded about 2/3 of the shots from the LaserLyte. Don't know what gives there. A few days after ordering, you get an envelope in the mail with a plastic card giving your activation code. It's good for only one computer so be sure that is the one you download the software on. Download is automatic. When it is finished, it asks for your authorization code and then you're all set up. Rather than a user's manual, there is a video that plays after the download to acquaint you with features. This video plays every time you load the software til you tell it to stop. With this video, everything is pretty intuitive, and you learn by doing as much as anything else. As a full disclosure I'm still learning. Camera setup was automatic. It just needs to be plugged into a USB port. After camera and software are set up, you take the usual dryfire precautions. Every careful shooter checks, rechecks and knows exactly what he did with the live ammo. The laser ammo "cartridge" is assembled by installing a battery and screwing in the tip that receives the firing pin strike. In my case, I have one for the 9mm and one for the .38. Then, the gun is ready. Now, you select your target. I printed some off the internet, but it can be anything in the room - spray starch top, light switch, ping pong ball, etc. With the camera focused on your target, on the computer you select by circle, rectangle or triangle, the area on you target that constitutes a "hit." It even has the capacity to identify a target for a special purpose such as resetting the system when this target is shot This save you having to do a reset on your computer. You then select your sound effects - such as a gunfire sound when you pull the trigger and a metal sound when the hit the target. There's a menu with varied selections. There is some selection also for shooter commands with "Evil Monkey" being my personal favorite. And there's a shot timer. I've been shooting on this system for the last four days, and I have "shot" my guns more in these four days more than I have in the last two years. It's not only cheap. It's not only convenient. It's fun. I realize the value of dry fire but it's boring. A laser system that adds visual feedback is less boring but a laser system with visual and audio feedback and a shot timer is just fun. Thus far, in my discovery mode, I've been target shooting and practicing my draw. Each of the three guns I use it with have different triggers and this system rewards good trigger control. I also look forward to using his more for one hand and offhand shooting. I didn't start out to get all wee-wee about this system. I have read the reviews of others who say their wet fire shooing improved after using this. I hope that is true with me, but I haven't been to the range since I started using this. And, I just thought, this may be a grand idea for older people who can't get to a range any more. Had something like this been available for my dad during his lifetime, I think he would have had a great time with it. So, in case you can't tell, I like his system a lot and highly recommend it.

Excellent product
Time at the range is difficult due to distance and cost at times. Dry fire is a great addendum to range work. I have used numerous simple laser systems but none as resourceful as this. Team this with a SIRT training pistol and you have an excellent package. It can be used anywhere with laptop computer and video cam. Anything can be used or designated as a target for practice. Integrated shoot timer extremely important and convenient for draw time and splits. Only con to this product is re-calibration time when used at higher definition video and potential light sensitivity with overhead lighting.

Then we're good to go again
The program is the answer to having to spend a lot of money on live ammunition with which to practice at a range or out in the boonies. I've had the program now for about 2 weeks. During that time I must have fired at least 700 times. The program and the 9mm LaserLyte have paid for themselves in ammunition costs. LASR allows me to train just as I've been instructed at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. It's so versatile that I can set up just about any drill including the timing. This is a must have training device for anyone who keeps firearms for self defense. The reason I withheld the last star is that sometimes the program goes a bit crazy. It starts clearing the targets of recorded shots on its own. When it starts doing that, I have to shut it down and restart it. Then we're good to go again. I hear they're about to come out with an updated version of the software. I'm hoping that there's a fix in the new version for this little annoyance. If not, that's O.K. because in all other respects, LASR is outstanding!

Use with the SIRT AR15 Bolt!
This is the best firearms practice I have ever had. I put thousands of rounds down range each year and was very excited when I found out about this product to help me get more practice when I can't make it to the range. I will easily double or even triple my trigger time now without spending a dime on more ammo, all while being able to practice drills not normally available to me at the range. Best of all is that you can create and run drills without all of the setup time normally required between drills at the range. I can run a drill 5 or more times with LASR in the same time that it would take me to reset one at the range. I was concerned with my older laptop and budget webcam being compatible with the program, but I have had zero issues once I went through the easy setup. The most important requirement is that you have a sturdy platform to keep the camera stable. If your webcam moves enough, it will be out of sync with your targets and result in a lot of false hits and misses. Currently I use the SIRT AR Bolt with the LASR program, which I think is the best training tool you can buy for your AR15. For my purposes, the red model AR bolt works fine. If you plan on being outdoors at longer distances then you want to consider the green laser model. I'm considering a SIRT training pistol as well as 12gauge and 7mm laser training aids to cover all of my bases. I am confident that LASR will help me improve with each. LASR is almost as fun as being at the range, it saves you money, and it improves your skills. I can't recommend it enough.
