A delightful collection of songs using interesting and unexpected elements in each one.

Leroy Anderson has long been one of my favorite composers. There is something about his ability to write light, airy songs as well as slightly more serious compositions. As a performance whistler, I frequently whistle his tunes, even when I'm' not performing. I think I fell in love with his music as a child and I'm still enjoying listening to him. It is just FUN!

Although I already had the very good Leonard Slatkin CD on RCA Red Seal, there were a few favorites missing, and I found most of them on this German 2-disc release. The sound is a bit dated, but with this sort of music that matters little. The inclusion of Anderson's entire 6-part "Irish Suite" on disc 2 is a real plus. The only sore points are the missing "Clarinet Candy" and the complete lack of liner notes - all you get is a sheet with the tracks and their times, no mention of when, where or by whom the music was played. (I assume Anderson was conducting his own ensemble.) A very enjoyable collection for easy listening.

I remember hearing a number of these instrumentals on the radio when I lived in CT in the 1960's. Nice tunes and very easy listening. It brings back a lot of fond memories.

Excelente selección de obras de Leroy Anderson. Obras cortas en las que encontramos de todo: fanfarrias, utilización de utensilios cotidianos como instrumentos de percusión dentro de la orquesta sinfónica, obritas que podrían ser bandas sonoras, otras que recuerdan mucho el estilo del teatro musical... Creo que, más allá de los grandes clásicos, la música de Leroy es perfecta para iniciarse en el mundo de la música sinfónica con obras desenfadadas, bien compuestas y muy frescas.
