Sid Meier's Civilization VI - Nintendo Switch

Great game! I've played the older Sid Meier Civ III game but haven't played the newer ones yet, mainly because I was so happy with the original version I had. But it was definitely time to jump back in with a new version and I decided to pick up the Switch version over the PC version. This way I can play on the go, at work (during breaks/lunch), while riding as a passenger, or on our vacations. Yes it lags a little bit towards the end when there is a lot of AI movement. But if you haven't played it on a computer you won't realize it and/or it isn't that big of a deal. Having this amazing game available on a potable format is so worth it! Graphics are great and words are readable even on the smaller handheld screen. With the Switches ability to come out of sleep mode very quickly it is easy to play a turn or two and then turn it off and then come back a little bit later and ice again pick it up quickly. Functionality is great, Nintendo did a great job at porting this game!! Recommend to anyone.

Arrived in good condition. Good game, though I takes some time to lose or win. But you can save progress.

This Switch version is underrated by many. I was actually surprised at how well this game runs on switch. I play the PS4 version on PS4 and PS5 and that one crashes a lot on PS4 and here and there on PS5. I haven't had a single crash on the switch. Yes it loads extremely slow but it doesn't bother me. You can play on large and huge maps if you have the patience to wait for. 15 AI players to move about 40 seconds each. I was pleasantly surprised at the custom control setup for switch, it uses the touch screen and has arrows to cycle through optiobs. I dislike that you need to touch the screen to highlight, for example, a unit or suggested settlement location. Often I press to highlight something and once I read the pop up info it will select the option i highlighted which can completely ruin a turn. If I didn't have experience with the game already then I can only imagine how frustrated I would be with this. 8/10 probably a biased rating as I am a fan of the series. All versions of this game have issues such as crashing. If the playstation version played like this switch version then I would give it a 6/10 but.... Its a switch so my expectations were low but exceeded ever slightly.

I've never played Civilization before, but for $15 I gave it a shot. Now I'm out 250 hours of my life. And an additional $50 for DLC for hundreds of more hours. Thanks 2K and Firaxis for the perfect quarantine game. Seriously, once you understand the gameplay mechanics, this game really is addictive. Since beginning to play, I've spent a lot of time on forums and watching videos to better understand options and optimize gameplay. The vanilla game is fun if you've never played before, as I hadn't. Having bought the DLC, I can say that it is certainly worth it and greatly enhances the game; I'd say the base game is about 65% of what it is with all DLC. For the base game, you start your game as a civilization in the ancient era and work your way towards the information era. The early game is mainly about exploration of land, meeting other civilizations, and slowly expanding your cities. The mid game centers around setting up your one of 4 victory conditions (culture, religion, domination, and science), and when you typically build up your cities and improve tiles. The late game is all about doing what you need to for your victory condition; you're no longer settling or building up cities and all focus is on your victory. I would say the early game is the most fun since you're about as strong, if not weaker than the AI (depending on difficulty), and the mid game is fun since everything you're doing in your cities has meaning toward your victory. The late game, I've found, becomes tedious. Most of your cities are already well developed, so managing them is pointless as well as a chore. At this point, it'll be pretty clear that you've won; it's just a matter of when. The latter stages of the game don't take away from the overall value of the game, but certainly something worth noting. For the Switch version, there is no online multiplayer and I don't think the devs are working on it. I didn't have any issues with the vanilla game as far as bugs or performance; loading times are much longer on the Switch as opposed to the PC, and it will lag during the late game, but nothing impacting gameplay. With DLC, however, I've found there to be numerous bugs and crashes.

I love, love, LOVE Civilization and have owned every Civ game except for the original Civ1. I've spent countless hours on these games over the years. When I heard I can get Civ on the switch as a handheld this sounded awesome! Civ on the train! On the bus! On long roadtrips! I expected some performance issues and controls issues but I figured I could live with it. After spending days with it, I have come to the conclusion that while it's a great portable play of Civ, I'd still prefer it on the PC or even a laptop if I could do it all over again! Firstly this is a FULL Civ6 game, there's no features removed or changes to handicap the game. However the first problem I noticed is the abysmal controls. Playing Civ with joysticks and buttons is not ideal. I figured I'd get used to it over time but after several days it's still annoying and cumbersome to do even simple things like move a unit or scroll the screen around. Using touch controls is actually better than the joysticks and a bit closer to the PC experience. However scrolling with touch can be annoying and I suggest using touch to "play" and the joystick to scroll. Then there's the performance. There is laaaaaaaaaaaaagggg. There is perceivable lag with everything and the most serious is scrolling. Everything feels like slow motion as outputs are a second or slower than input. Move a unit, takes a moment for it to actually move. Scroll the screen? Slowly watch the whole view move. The whole thing feels like a slow yacht moving through the water. The performance is better docked but then you lose the touch controls and have to stick with the joysticks. Overall the mobility of the game on Switch is great but I find myself wishing I had a mouse and keyboard and a more powerful more instant playing experience all the time.

I loved this game so much, I bought it on Steam. It's much better on steam, but playable on Switch. In late game it definitely chugs a bit on the Switch. Some of the UI bits are weird also. For example, it's hard to expand your territory by buying hexes, unless you use your D-pad to make the selection. The reason why it's 5 stars is because I feel that despite the slowdown and some UI funkiness, the portability more than makes up for it. You can't play a turn on the PC and then leave to do something else like you can on the Switch. You can't bring the computer into the bathroom for a quick poo. (okay not quick sometimes I sit there until my legs go numb because of how addicting this game is). A game like this really shines when you can pick it up and play for a bit and put it back down to do other life things, especially if you have a newborn like I do. That said, you might want to consider getting this on Ipad, especially if your ipad is one of the newer ones with stronger specs. I would say... for the price on amazon (< 2 0), it's a good deal. But I would not buy the expansion on switch. You can get the platinum version on steam for around 30 dollars if you shop around (at legit resellers) and wait for a sale. The expansion on switch by itself was more than that, and I bet the lag issue will probably not get solved by throwing more complexity to the game

Don't buy this. You'll get sucked in, and you won't get out. Jkjk. Join the rest of us in wasting our lives. As always CIV is great - I haven't actually played since the early 2000s, so it was like jumping back into my childhood. There was a lot to learn and relearn, but it came quickly enough (you do have to take advantage of the civilopedia, which I remember formerly being a physical handbook), and I'm back in the game of conquering the world. The graphics are awesome, the game play is fun, Sean Bean was an AWESOME choice as a narrator, and it's quick and easy. Now, I just have to stop staying up until the wee hours of the night playing.

I needed more games on my Switch that I could play at a gentle pace while maybe doing other things like watching a TV show or chatting with my roommate. Civ VI seemed to fit that bill perfectly, and being able to have it handheld and take it on the go seemed like a huge plus. The only thing I was leery about was the port, a lot of strategy games don't play very well with the limited buttons of a controller, and Civ games can sometimes chug lower-end systems when large games start pushing into later turns. However, I played a good amount of Civ V with a Steam Controller, so I remained hopeful. I was pleasantly surprised that none of these concerns are really issues with this version of Civ VI at all! The controls and controller configurations are very well-designed and work excellently, it takes some getting used to (especially if you're going from playing Civ on PC) but before long I had them down pat with no stumbling, forgetting controls, etc. The UI, while unfortunately not being adjustable in this version, is scaled very well to fit both a large screen while docked and the Switch's handheld display, the game looks fine even when capped to handheld mode's 720p, although the lower resolution compared to other systems is certainly noticeable. I still have yet to play a truly giant map, but games with 8-12 players were loading pretty briskly even when pushing into 300 and 400 turns. Civ VI the game itself is a 5-star game for me, and while this is a surprisingly capable port, this is certainly not the definitive Civ VI experience. But there's a few things holding this version back from 5 stars: -Overall functionality is limited compared to the PC version due to a lack of available keyboard bindings. I mentioned above that the UI isn't scalable like it is on PC. There's also a number of other display options that aren't available, like being able to toggle specific sets of labels and indicators on the map on and off so you can see more of the map a bit more clearly, or only look for specific things. These don't affect the experience too much, but their absence is definitely felt. Also, a lack of a keyboard makes navigating the Civipedia take an age and a half. -No online multiplayer. This might be a sticking point for some, I don't tend to play multiplayer Civ very much so it doesn't really affect me much, but it definitely feels like something that should be here. -Price! Now, I paid around $20 for a new copy which I think is a fair price, but that was a sale price, and it's still listed as being $60 normally. $60 is far too much for a slightly inferior, albeit portable version of a PC game that came out several years ago. Do not pay full price for this game. I wouldn't pay more than $30 if I'm being honest. -DLC is not bundled and will cost you an extra $50 or so if you want it, although personally I'm enjoying the game just fine without. I understand one of the DLC sets is also missing a major feature that it had on the PC version, but I don't have them so I can't really say much about it. TL;DR: This is definitely not the best version of Civ VI but it's a surprisingly capable port. If you want the absolutely best iteration of Civ VI and you have a PC that is capable, get it for PC. If you don't have a gaming PC or are simply intrigued by the possibility of taking Civ on the go, or are looking for a good strategy game for your Switch, definitely pick this version up!

The physical product is good, no issues at all, came brand new with plastic wrapping. For the game itself, I have never played Civilization at all and it took me a while to get used to how much details and functions in-game. Watched a few tutorials and learnt as I played. Very fun and interesting if you enjoy strategy games with a lot of freedom to tweak many things to affect your game. Expect to put in many hours into this.
